A seemingly casual look at sex-workers but actually a blunt critique of not only those who exploit these boys for sensual pleasures but also those who thrive on their misery to climb the ladder of success in the modern world-system. Shockingly tragic; hits one mercilessly.

Perfect Sri Lankan Film
18 May 2019
This is perhaps the perfect Sri Lankan film depicting the influence of Buddhism on the Sri Lankan society. Set in the mid 1960's Colombo elite society, this movie explores the diverse ways the Buddhist path to ultimate happiness can be achieved; here and now (not after death). No Sinhalese film has achieved this standard as far as Sinhalese-Buddhist culture is depicted to this degree of perfection except for "Siribo Ayya". How Buddhist thinking can be applied to everyday life without necessarily sacrificing "worldly pleasures" is quite effectively portrayed in these two movies. "Ransalu" (or "Yellow Robes"; rather it should be "Golden Robes") It has all the imperfections of the technology available at the time; but artistically and philosophically, no movie ever produced anywhere in the world on practical Buddhism would be comparable to "Ransalu" and "Siribo Ayya".
