It ain't necessarily so.
13 October 2011
Warning: Spoilers
The things that you're liable to read in the bible it ain't necessarily so.

Does anyone really believe what it says in the bible?

And for that matter who cares?

Films are made as entertainment, not documentaries of fact

So Rita Hayworth is past her best, but 10th rate Rita is better than first rate any actress can achieve today.

The film is worth watching as a colourful spectacle, especially the dance of the seven veils.

What Jean Louis can do with a few saris and a few thousand yards of silk deserves an Oscar.

What a sad film
24 September 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Many reviewers have compared this film with "Gilda",the same stars, similar plot, but there the similarity ends. It's really just a sad parody of "Gilda".

The reviews are far more entertaining than the film. One reviewer praised Rita Hayworth's singing and dancing. It's a pity they couldn't have dubbed her dancing as well. Her body was described as "athletic".I would have said flabby and well corseted.

Another reviewer said the Nazis didn't take Paris???

I don't consider "Gilda" a great film but Rita Hayworth is incandescent, one of the most watchable performances of all time. How could a woman so beautiful have aged so badly in 6 years? She was only 33,but looked well into her 40s.One year later as Sadie Thompson she could have been in her 50s!

There was only one star in this show and that was Jean Louis.Don't ask who she was.

junk food?
16 September 2011
The author of junk food (anonymous of course)should stick to watching so called reality TV,or maybe all those wonderful soap operas of anything with Ant and Dec.

So "The Killing" isn't a masterpiece, the greatest work of art ever made, but what else do we get for our licence fee?

All this nit-picking about camera angles etc.Who cares?

So the story was a bit far fetched, but this isn't a documentary. It is superior entertainment that keeps you hooked for 20 hours.

The quality of the acting and direction is so good it enables one to suspend disbelief.

I tried 5 minutes of the US version, but there were no subtitles and I couldn't understand a word.

The final word of the anonymous reviewer was "pathetic".That just sums up her review.

Big budget film?
15 September 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I cannot understand why this film has such a low rating when nobody has a really bad word to say about it.

Somebody described it as a big budget film.I wonder how many films these days cost $2000000!

I saw it at the cinema and was gripped from start to finish.I'm not usually a fan of violent films, but compared to some of the truly big budget British gangster films made recently this is certainly the best.

The direction was fast, underlined by an exciting musical sore.

The acting was excellent especially Freddie Connor, whom I found mesmerising.I'm sure we will see a lot of him in the future.

Why so many stars?
15 September 2011
Warning: Spoilers
The only thing that prompted me to review this film was the fact that the worst review rated 2 stars.

I would have given it a minus number.

I know there are are many bad films made these days, but they are not pretending to be works of art.

This pretentious load of rubbish was a complete waste of acting ability.

I didn't give a damn about any of the characters.

And as for the aging make up near the end of the film, that was hysterical. Were they off to a halloween party?

One of the worst films I have ever seen.
31 August 2011
Warning: Spoilers
How can anyone say the acting is good in this film?

The script and direction were so appalling I defy anyone to make a good job of it.

I saw it at the Edinburgh film festival when it first came out and have managed to wipe most of it from my memory.

I do remember that the director was sitting right behind me,as he was scheduled to do a Q and A.

Needless to say he did a runner before the film finished as most of the audience was laughing hysterically, especially when the mother sniffed her dead child's pyjamas.

This is definitely one of the worst films I have ever seen.I know most of the films made these days are complete and utter trash, but they don't pretend to be otherwise, and I wouldn't bother to go and see them.

striped pyjamas --the musical
30 August 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Can't wait to see "Striped pyjamas-- the musical",with SS guards singing "Springtime for Hitler". I thought "Asylum" was the worst film I'd ever seen, but "The boy in striped pyjamas " has surpassed that. I cannot understand the criticism that the actors are speaking English. At least the accents are consistent. What do people expect? The most annoying and insulting aspect to the film is the ridiculous plot,as described by other reviewers. If it was so easy to get into Auschwitz in broad daylight why hadn't everyone escaped? One of the inmates spills wine while serving at the dinner table(very plausible?).He is then hauled off by one of the Nazis and beaten to death without anybody turning a hair!!This same Nazi then just happens to mention that his father left for Switzerland 4 years ago instead of serving the fatherland,so he is packed off to the front.(Oh really?) Even more annoying was the terrible Bruno, who couldn't act and was completely stupid even or an 8 year old.Didn't he look like Hitler, especially at the funeral with his hair parted in the same way. I cheered at the end partly because the film was over, but mostly because it was so implausible and devoid of any genuine feeling. This film is a disgrace and an insult to all the real holocaust victims.
