Designated Survivor (2016)
About the dumbest thing I've ever seen.
I'll put this simply. Sutherland is a great actor playing a character who is so poorly written the premise becomes something that could have been. Could have been exciting. Could have been compelling. Could have been a political and social commentary.
Instead we're left with the idiotic decision to make the character of President Kirkland such a weak and indecisive individual that he would never have made it to the job he originally had in the cabinet. In the scenario the show offers us within hours of the event he would have been removed either legally or illegally from office with his inability to make authoritative decisions regarding national security from external and internal threats.
Another thing is the family drama he would not even have a minute for following the first 24, (at the very least), of an attack on America like this.
This isn't good fiction, it's unbelievable to the extreme and the characters are so out of touch with reality that the show is ruined by them.
Alientologists (2017)
Brilliant!
Don't want to give spoilers, but since in the summary it says Earth no longer exists I'll go only so far.
This is quite simply an amazing and heartfelt story about the joys of discovery, and on the whole we as humans leaving behind a wonderful gift which represents one of our best and not worst qualities. I can watch it over and over and the thinking is way outside the box on a sci fi short.
