Truly Awful
28 January 2015
This show raises many questions and the first question would be how on Earth do these people get to keep making these movies when they are this awful?

The acting and writing are both garbage. I don't know where they are finding the actors for these movies but I can only assume they are putting an ad in the local Podunk, Ontario newspaper asking anyone with free time to just show up and bring whatever props and Halloween costumes they own.

Same thing for the writing. Is there a script at all? Is there a script that was written as a joke on toilet paper while the writer was taking a huge dump.

Was this movie produced as a joke or because someone lost a bet and had to? Is the fat comic relief guy supposed to be so annoying I want to punch my screen?

How in the world did they get actual famous people to make appearances in this?

The first movie was bad and this one is at least a million times worse. Please stop making these! How can they possibly be making any money?

Why This Show Sucks
28 January 2015
  • Ten lines are needed really? It only takes one line to say that this show sucks. - This show is not entertaining. - This show is not funny. - This show is 100% fake and this show is 100% not real. - The bidders on Storage Wars Canada all suck. - The stuff they find on this show sucks. - This show is way too boring. - This show is way too cheap. - The conflict between bidders on this show is all fake. - Still not ten lines? Why do I have to write so much? - The jokes on this show suck. - Everything on this show sucks. - This show is too slow and so boring it hurts. - Every time any of the bidders talks about anything I want to punch the screen.

Not Funny
26 January 2015
When will CBC learn that they can't just make a show and tell us that it is funny. No matter how many posters they put up and how many commercials they air on their own channel, this show will not be funny just because they say it is.

The show stars Gerry D. as a teacher at a public school. This teacher is a moron and a jerk and that's about as deep as this story goes. There are a couple good appearances (Mark Little plays another teacher who is awkward and funny and Jon-o-Vision as the principal is good as well) but the show is terrible otherwise.

The writing is a huge fail with predictable jokes and gags, and the same things happening week after week. When they're not funny the first time, they definitely won't be the tenth time CBC.

Also the biggest problem is that the star seems so completely awful. I know it is the character but between this and his sports segments Gerry D. seems like he actually is a genuinely horrible person who I don't want to spend half an hour with.

It's unbelievable that this show is still on the air, I can't name one person who likes it.

Three Soldiers & Awful Comedian Sabrina Jalees
26 January 2015
This show has potential and Larry Wilmore is OK. I loved his segments on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart but for some reason it is not coming through in his own show. Maybe he is only great in small doses but I have been watching The Nightly Show since it started but it needs to start getting better fast or it could get pulled from the network because looking at these message boards there obviously isn't a lot of love for it.

Tonight's show is a good example (airing January 26 2015 since I have no idea when you will read this), with the topic being American snipers since the huge movie at the time is "American Sniper". The stuff off the top with Larry Wilmore was decent and the highlight of the show. He will get better as time goes on I assume. After that there was a character piece with Shenaz Treasure which was just painfully awful. It was five minutes of one joke (we get it, Bradley Cooper is hot) that she just wasn't delivering right. Not funny at all. I'm not looking forward to any more of her bits. Epic fail.

The panel discussion was OK and again I think they will feel it out over time. Larry wasn't pitch perfect tonight but he's obviously got a talent for heading up this type of panel and other episodes have been better. Part of the problem was tonight's panel, which didn't give him much funny to work with.

The three more serious guests were OK (they were a veterans group representative, a sniper, and the other guy I think was an Iraq War/middle east expert who was very "anti-Bush" in his opinions). None of them were particularly funny but they're obviously not there for that, they have different viewpoints on the week's serious topic and did a fine job presenting that.

Where the panel works or fails is with the fourth panelist who is always a comedian of some sort and they are supposed to bring the funny to the table and give Larry help with that part of the show. Too often (at least so far) this guest hasn't been up to snuff and the show has suffered because of it. Case in point tonight's guest, a Canadian lesbian (not that that matters) named Sabrina Jalees was in that seat and brought almost nothing to the table. I hate to have to say it but the two females on the show tonight were just bloody awful and by far the worst parts of the show, hopefully producers will not let them stop them from booking other females in the future who can actually deliver on the funny. Jaleese barely talked at all and when she did her jokes were awkward and completely unfunny, on top of that they had little to do with the panel's discussion or show's topic. Even her answer to the Keep it 100 question was forced, took way too long and was completely unfunny. The sniper and veterans representative were both honestly funnier in their comments than the comedian tonight, and also the Iraq expert came off a bit too hostile (particularly towards the veterans rep) and seemed sort of jerky for lack of a better word.

Keep it 100 is very hit or miss just like the panel, for the same reasons, but tonight's panel (aside from Jalees) did quite well with it. Wasn't thrilled with Wilmore's answer tonight as it seemed a bit of a pander (saying he'd serve his country any time) but he really didn't have anywhere else to go with it. I get that he doesn't see the question beforehand and sometimes this makes his answer even funnier but they might want to let him pick the questions or at least see them beforehand to come up with great answers regularly.

All in all I will keep watching this show, am still a big fan of Wilmore, and will cross my fingers that they sort this show out soon because I see huge potential and don't want to see it canceled. With such a big part of the show being the panel I hope they'll start booking funnier comedians more regularly. Bill Burr would be great as a semi regular guest!

Johnny 5 is Alive!
25 January 2015
This is a great classic comedy. I know, I know, it's not like it's a brilliant work of cinematic history or anything, and Steve Guttenberg is hardly the greatest actor of his generation, but if you are looking for just a fun movie with some cheap laughs that won't make you think too much, this is a great pick. Especially if it's for the whole family, because Short Circuit is definitely family friendly (for the most part).

One thing we didn't appreciate was that Fisher Stevens was playing a silly comic-relief character, a nerdy scientist from India who talks with a stereotypical old Indian accent and just doesn't understand things and is super socially awkward. But I guess that was okay in the eighties.

Fun times!

Good Doc
25 January 2015
Farmingville is a good documentary that seems to be very fair and truthful in how it tells the story of two Mexican day labourers (illegal immigrant workers) who were victims of assault and attempted murder, and the town that they lived in, the titular Farmingville in New York state.

The story could be told in a more interesting way, particularly some of the visual elements of the film and stock footage (though I'm sure they just used whatever they had available to them) but it does a great job when it comes to presenting the facts and opinions of those involved. They don't focus too much on one side of the story and in fact by doing so they end up making a great statement about how everyone needs to step outside their own shoes and consider how things are seen by people on the other side of the fence.

A Pitiful Effort
22 January 2015
This show is terrible.

Eugene Levy's son is probably the worst comedy actor I have ever seen in my entire lift. He really is so bad that every time he is on screen and especially every time he opens his stupid whiny mouth I want to find the nearest heavy object and smash my own skull open with it to spare myself any more suffering. That might be a slight exaggeration but only a slight one because yes Eugene Levy's son really is that bad at acting.

Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara are both good in their parts but they are totally wasted in this. Their characters are about as deep as a sidewalk crack.

The stories, jokes and writing are total garbage. I could coax better writing and funnier jokes out of my three year old with the promise of a cookie before nap time. It's sick to think that a lot of people are being paid a lot of money to make crap like this, particularly when many much better shows have been canceled. Typical CBC!

Do yourself a favour and avoid this show at all costs, it is a pitiful effort.

The Big Problem
19 March 2012
This movie is not great but it's not bad either.

The real reason why this movie is doing so unbelievably bad at the box office, actually, to be honest, it has nothing at all to do with it being a good movie or with it being a bad movie, it is something different.

Marketing! Nobody knows what this movie is about or who John Carter is or why we should care. I didn't know it was supposed to be on Mars even. I don't know anything about the story and I think most people are like my in that area.

With all the posters, commercials etc why did they never say what the story was or who this guy is? I'm supposed to know about a sci-fi book from the 1900's? Get real, the marketing on this movie is maybe the worst ever.

Anyway the story is okay (better than Avatar but still kind of basic and thin) but the effects really are tremendous, if you like effects then I definitely would say you should go see this movie while you can in 3D which might not be for long because the rate this movie is flopping it will be pulled from theaters at any minute, wish I was joking.
