Halloween Ends (2022)
It's not just another generic Halloween movie.
It's sad how much hate this movie gets 'cos it finally did what the franchise should've done ages ago. Yeah maybe it's to late, for what is supposed to be the final chapter (again), but at least it's not another movie where Michael comes back after a few years to butcher his way though some randoes (of increasing importance) until he finally meets his (supposed) end at the hands of Laurie Strode (or whoever else they got when Curtis didn't want to return). Even the original creators themselves didn't want to do the same thing all over again and made Season of the Witch (part 3), but since people apparently like their Halloween movies just as a lesser remake of the original, they just continued with more of the same with part 4 and onward. They even rebooted it several times to just start over.
I don't want to go into the actual story 'cos if you want something slightly different (you'll still get the kills) it might be the most fun to go in fresh. If, on the other hand, you want more of the same, where Michael comes back after a few years to butcher his way though some randoes (of increasing importance) until he finally meets his (supposed) end, you're better off watching any of the other sequels and remakes they made (you have a whopping 10 options). We need more sequel that don't just repeat the original again... and again and again.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022)
Hope...
From the first two episodes I'd have to say that this is a step in the right direction. It's not a ship full of a-holes like in Discovery nor just dumb over emotional people like in Picard. This time it's a ship full of snarky wise guys. That's not necessarily a bad thing, as it worked for Firefly, but here the only thing that helps you keep the characters apart is the haircuts (not the dialogue). The tone is more Trekkie and (thus far) they seem to interact well with each other, instead of the usual secret keeping you see in most shows these days just so the writers can create conflict. I also have to admit that most (proper) Star Trek shows didn't have a running start either (TNG and DS9 had to literally grow their beards) and ENT was actually pretty good by the time it got cancelled, so I'm willing to give this a fair chance (just like I did with that show about the confused old man and Starship A-hole).
The writing in itself is still pretty mediocre, as things happen pretty conveniently. Not to mention the science also seems off. The way we see a meteor crash into a planet made my laugh out loud, but I might be able to live with that if the rest is compelling enough. It does feel like you're missing Pike's backstory if you haven't seen STD (I'm amazed I got through the 1rst season and only watched the 1rst episode of season 2 so I didn't see this crew get introduced in that show) so maybe that's a thing they should address (since this is not the Pike from STO).
So the foundation is good. The look of the show is spot on with excellent costume and set design. The cast is great (it's weird it includes Uhura and Kirk's dad, but whatever) and Mount seems a great likable captain.
I say fire a few producers (they don't need 24!?) and invest that money in some actual Scifi writers and this might become decent Star Trek again just like The Orville.
