God's Favorite Idiot: B-Minus (2022)
Hilarious & Totally Random
As usual Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone are comedy gold...
*Cue "Sign of the Times" by Harry Styles*
What if a modern prophet didn't know he was he was Chosen? And what if he worked with a collection of funny tech nerds, plus a women who takes far too any medications recreationally?
Is It Cake? (2022)
Needs a New Host
I'm gonna call it how I see it: The host (Mikey Day) is cringy-level fake and his jokes don't land. Kudos to the bakers for giving him pity laughter and not strangling him.
The concept of the show is simple (maybe stupid?) but it shows off what artists the bakers are. I think trying to work out the rough edges of the show would do a lot but first NEW HOST.
(There's a wild idea: have Andrew or Jonny host. Or even one of the other contestants)
Cracked Up (2018)
Looking Behind the Laughter
This is the stunning story of the mental (and too often physical) battle lurking in the past and present of one of the funniest living comedians. Darrell's journey through trauma, alcohol, prescriptions, therapy, rehab, and self-injury shows how complicated mental illness is even after a diagnosis; there is no "I had a mental illness" there is only "I have a mental illness." The way this documentary is laid out shows how bad things got in private when everything appeared perfect in public.
After watching this I am genuinely startled at how Darrell survived his childhood.
Happy Together: Pilot (2018)
Cute and has potential
The initial reviews for this show were pretty bad, but when I sat down and watched it I thought it was very funny and relatable. I think it helps if you know that the premise for the show came from Harry Styles moving in with Ben Winston and his wife. I keep picturing this popstar whirlwind entering a couple's happily settled domestic bliss and it makes me giggle since a lot this rings true to me as a thirty-something attempting to keep my hipper, cooler went-self alive.
