A Very Vintage Christmas (2019)
A Very Boring Christmas Movie
Paper thin story line, trite dialogue, mediocre (uncharismatic) cast, lousy music...well, you get the idea. So why did I watch it? Because my wife always thinks "maybe it'll get better". Otherwise it would have cut this thing off after 2 minutes. To paraphrase that Skip The Dishes commercial; It is so...CANADIAN!.
Manhattan Murder Mystery (1993)
Watching Fifty Shades of Gray Paint Dry.
This movie is the cinematic equivalent of Chinese food.
At a really lousy restaurant.
I saw it, on TV, several months ago & can barely remember what it was about. All I recall is a relatively young couple living in a New York apartment meeting their older neighbors. Wait, I think the wife disappears and they suspect that the husband may have murdered her.
Or is it the other way around?
In any case I didn't give a damn because they were just actors in a Woody Allen movie. Even when he wasn't actually on screen, going through his familiar "shtick", I wasn't able to achieve the necessary "suspension of disbelief" to buy this fairy tale. Allen is such a narcissist that he isn't content to just tell a compelling story, he has to draw attention to his "brilliance". Woody Allen doesn't WANT you to forget that you are watching a "cinematic work of art".
I'm convinced that most people (especially critics) praise Woody Allen's "serious" movies because it will reveal a lack of culture to tell the truth; that they are bored to tears by this pretentious trash. Most Turner Classics not only stand up to repeated viewing but many actually improve. Does ANYONE who has written a laudatory review of this movie plan to watch it again?
Seriously?
