Can't stop thinking about it
Unbelievable film. A friend of mine watched this in a film festival in California and recommended it to me. Watching it for the first 10 minutes I was offended, then the next 20 minutes I couldn't wait to email the director/writer Rudy Luna and give him my two cents. The film seemed to be an affront to all women, married, engaged, divorced, single, but the last hour of this film completely changed my mind. Completely. The film takes place in a cigar lounge, were the audience is privy to men's private conversations, but then when one of the men claim that he knows the secret to a successful marriage he's got the other men's attention. He tells them that all men should be sleeping around because it's in their nature, it is biological and the minute they go against nature then the will be at odd with everything around them. Soon, each man tells a private story about a women in their lives. They all start to believe that procreation is the true meaning of life, and although they need not to impregnate as many women as possible, they certainly need to have sex as much as possible with as many different women that they can...just use protection. And of course younger women are the preference since they have longer reproduction life. One of them men is a hold out and when he tells his story, it blows all his friend away and even evolution cannot sort this one out. I'm really doing an injustice in my explanation, all I know is that this is one of the most powerful indies you'll see. The actors are simply amazing. The actor who play Nelix in Star Trex is so good, you will love him. See this movie if you want insight on men and why they behave the way they do...you may never see relationships the same way again.
I Love You Phillip Morris (2009)
Don't see this
Well, I'm glad I only spent $1.07 at Redbox to rent this film. I also completely understand why it didn't get a wide theatrical release. Ewan McGregor is always good and I enjoy his performance, but Jim Cary was really hard to watch. He portrays a real life character, who turn into a con man to support his homosexual lifestyle. In fact, his first con was to himself; trying to be a happily married heterosexual man. When he and his wife come to terms of his homosexual nature, this is when the adventure begins. He then performs scams after scams until he is arrested and sent to prison where he falls in love with McGregor's character and then he does everything in his power to be with him, including more scams. The real life character must have been interesting, but Jim Cary is his stupid, goofy self and after awhile there just isn't anything interesting about him. Therefore, you don't really care about what happens to him...mainly because Jim Cary's character doesn't seem to care, or at least that's how he's playing it. It was an average film that I wouldn't recommend to anyone.
Never Let Me Go (2010)
Love it!
This is an amazing film. I love when filmmakers don't spoon feed the audience. This film has so many layers. I typically do not care for Keira Knightley's acting, but she was so good in this film, as was the other actors in it. The film opens in a boarding house in England where you get the impression that the young children who go there are "special" as the story unfolds we realize that they have no parents and they are all selected to be in this boarding house. I won't give away why...since that is really the twist in the movies. In any case the film centers around 3 of the students, two girls and one boy and of course a romance between them. They grow up and soon they are off to do what they are meant to do which will create heartache, sadness and truths about our lives and mortality. It is set in the 50's but in a parallel 20th century unlike ours. All I can say is rent the film because I think that it was poorly marketed and that's why it didn't have a wider release. Sometimes the distributors have no idea how to market something unique, intelligent, and inspiring. It is a thinking film so be prepared.
