Tian xia di yi quan (1972)
One of the masters of Kung Fu flicks!
Well as a life long fan of Kung Fu films I have to say this is one of the best I have ever seen. Sure there is nothing special about the plot but man does it entertain. As does most movies of the genre. This film is packed with action and does not boar its viewers. It's so damn fun when I watch I have a smile on my face the whole time. This also has an impact on future films like Kill Bill. (Many of Kill Bill's Sound effects come from this film for example.) This is essential viewing for all knew viewers in Kung Fu. Form open to close this film is filled with fights that really are some of the better I have seen in the genre. There are few Kung Fu films out there that measure up to the sheer magic and entertainment of this film. So if in search of a Great Kung Fu movie check this one out for sure.
Evil Dead II (1987)
Not intended to only scare!
The first evil dead movie was a creepy little movie. Evil dead 2 on the other hand is not just for scares.
Sure, the movie has some creepy parts in it but it is more fun and acting than it is scary. This is pretty much a remake of the first but this one has more fun with the story. The evil dead series is converted from a horror movie to an action comedy. The heart of the movie is really Ash who in this movie really has a fun character. He is the wise ass demon killing tough guy in this one. The movie is at its best when ever he has I fight with the demons. I loved the first one but the second is much better and tons more fun. If you like a horror movie that has fun and doesn't take itself seriously then get off your ass and see this movie. It's a classic for all fans of horror movies.
Backyard Dogs (2000)
why was this movie made
I had found out about this movie from a good friend of mine because his uncle (Robert Boris) was the writer and director of this train wreck of a movie. He said it was bad and it even temped me more to go and see it. He was so right.
I would not know were to begin to say were this movie gone wrong. Maybe one of the major problems is the fact it was made only to cash in on the big wrestling fad in the late 90's. Lets be honest nobody going to see this movie was exspecting a large charector driven movie. Nevertheless, some how it was way below the horrible expectations I had already had for this movie. Everything was worse than I could have imagined. The acting, the story, and most of all the camera work were some of the worst I've ever seen!
At all, coast stay away from this movie unless you want a cheap little laugh at how bad it is. I feel sorry for my friend's relatives who had put money into this movie! If you could call it that!
The Verdict (1982)
Paul Newman's finest hour!
I think most courtroom films are not very good and cheesy. The Verdict though is a great exception. This is not only the best courtroom drama ever but also one of the most underrated movies ever. I don't know why this isn't considered a classic and more well known.
This is a top-notch film in so many ways. The script is short of amazing with its interesting twists and great character development. However, the best part is Newman's performance. He plays the character with great flare and it is his best role ever. His betrayal of a down on his luck alcoholic lawyer is amazingly powerful. He should have won the Oscar for this film. Besides Newman's acting the supporting cast is extraordinary as well. James Mason was also very good in his role and almost stole the screens from Newman.
I cannot say enough about this movie and I loved every inch of it.
