Falling Angels (2003)
Overlooked, breathtaking masterpiece
It should be a crime of some sorts that movies like "Falling Angels" are so completely overlooked, while overrated garbage like "Shutter Island" and "Iron-Man" get all the credit! Unfortunately, nowadays people don't care about the substance or acting, all they care about is retarded special effects and 3D!
I just watched this movie and it blew me away. I am speechless, literally! I won't give away anything, I really think you should see it for yourselves! The atmosphere, the beautiful scenery, the story, the acting... It blew me away! Everyone in the cast did an amazing, wonderful job! I can't recall the last time I was this pleasantly surprised, no, pleasantly shocked by a film. Why isn't this movie known more widely?!
Amazing movie! Highly recommended!
Frailty (2001)
The ending insults us "demons" out there!
Oh, my GOD! I have never, ever in my entire life felt so disappointed by the ending of a movie. The only other other movie that has a worse ending than this one was "Identity".
"Frailty" starts very good. Up until the last 15 minutes or so, I was sure that this will not be a wasted time at all. I was glued to the screen. I kept waiting for an ending that will satisfy a normal atheist mind, and finally show on screen what no movie has shown before: THAT THERE IS NO GOD! But, the ending did exactly the opposite! The final message from the film literally is: God exists, there are demons among us, and believers should, in fact, kill those demons. And I will most likely be among those "demons". How insulting can this get?! I was utterly disappointed with the ending. What a great idea...WASTED!!!! Shame on you, Bill!
Frágiles (2005)
Solid, but not enough scares
This is a very good, intelligent film that builds tension very well, although it seems that the director doesn't exactly know what to do with that tension. There were definitely not enough scares in the movie, actually, I don't recall that I've jumped at any scene, but there was a lot of tension, that's for sure. Occasional bad editing, nothing too distracting. The acting was solid. I was impressed by Calista Flockhart, and Gemma Jones was perfect, as usual. This film kind of reminded me of "The Ring", both because of it's scenery and partly because of it's story. The ending could have been a bit better, but what the heck!
All in all, an enjoyable Friday night movie.
Catwoman (2004)
What is wrong with you people?!
Why everyone hates this movie so much is really beyond me. And not just any common movie-goers, the glorified critics as well! When I first heard that Halle Berry was given a Razzie for "Catwoman", I finally admitted to myself that there is no justice in this world. If anything, Halle should have won a Golden Globe for her fantastic, charismatic role of Patience Phillips.
How can you people be such hypocrites?! You all praise ridiculous superhero movies like "Hulk", "Iron Man" and "Fantastic Four", but when a strong, leading FEMALE character appears, you s*it all over it! Honestly!!!
I was never a big fan of Catwoman's character, but Halle Berry has made me into one. The acting in this movie was superb, better than some of the acting that has gotten some actors their phony Oscars (isn't that right, Nicole Kidman?).
The plot was not very original, I'll give you that, and there ARE some occasional clichés (toxic beauty cream being one of them), but all that falls under the amazing Halle Berry. What an actress! I've never seen an actress being so dedicated, and so comfortable in her role like she has. Halle was BORN for this role, ignore what everyone else says! Halle, honey, don't ever, EVER feel ashamed because some fat, geeky, short-sided idiots have decided to give you a Razzie! Remember, they SUCK, you ROCK!
The soundtrack of this movie was also incredible! The late Natasha Schneider did a marvelous job with her song "Who's In Control?". All the other song were great too, and were the perfect choice to follow Catwoman's journey through self discovery.
All in all, GREAT acting, GREAT music, SUPERB movie! Ignore every single bad review, they don't know what the f**k they are talking about!
The Time Shifters (1999)
The only thing wrong with this movie is the awful Casper Van Dien
And all this time I thought Johnny Depp is a lousy actor! Geez! Van Dien is really smokin' hot & sexy, but as far as acting goes - he blows! But, if you can overlook that, you are in for a very interesting ride. This is one of the most underrated sci-fi movies ever! I've actually seen this film a long, long time ago on TV, but was too young to remember the title or any of the actors or names in the movie. The only thing I remembered was the plot. After that I've been looking for the title of this film for like FOREVER! Finally, I found it! And all I can say is - if I knew the difference between a good actor and a bad one when I first saw this film, I really doubt I would've look for it for so long, 'cause Van Dien is really wooden and awful! Catherine Bell and Theresa Saldana were solid enough to help us get through Casper's "acting". But, despite that, this film really is great! A solid 8/10 stars!
The Banger Sisters (2002)
Gave me an incredible feeling of 80's nostalgia...
Ever since "Blow", there hasn't been a single movie that has brought me that strange, familiar 70's and 80's nostalgia feeling. Well, this one does it even better!
Towards the end (the graduation scene), the feeling did kinda of wear off, but in the driving through the desert scene, the movie returns to it's roots, leaving you with a warm feeling around your heart. The thing with "The Banger Sisters" is that you have to see it as the drama that it is, as well as the comedy.
The soundtrack was incredible, filled with nostalgic songs that brought real authenticity to the movie. The cast was marvelous, Sarandon and the forever ditzy blond Goldie Hawn are a match made in heaven, both perfect as always.
No matter what the critics and the other reviewers say, this film was a deep, emotional journey of self discovering, and, in my opinion, one of the most underrated movies of all time. One of the main things that this film shows us is that we can sometimes forget who we once were and what our wishes and plans for the future were, but that it's OK, as long as we have that special person who knew us before our lives turned out different than what we expected. With that person in our lives, we can never forget the good, old days.
I laughed, I cried, I remembered... I loved it! Highly recommended!
Black Swan (2010)
Extraordinary movie!
Yes, it's all true. The movie is a real masterpiece, which comes as no surprise, knowing that Aronofsky directed it. I haven't had a doubt in my mind that this was going to be a great film. The visual effects were great, the plot, the script. Everything. Except Natalie Portman. Wow. This girl is a real looker, but is a perfect example of "beauty before talent" rule in Hollywood. Portman is one of the worst actresses I've ever seen. And in "Black Swan", she proves it once again. There wasn't a single moment in this film where I didn't think that Jennifer Connelly would have been a much, much better choice for Nina. Yes, Connelly is a bit old for the part, but she could, without a doubt, wipe the floor with Portman's wooden acting. After Portman won the Oscar for this role, I finally admitted to myself that the Oscar's really are all about commercializing. But, in the end, even Natalie's lack of talent didn't spoil this little gem. A perfect movie experience with less than perfect leading actress.
Nip/Tuck (2003)
Another series that has lost it's edge
After watching the first few episodes, I was instantly hooked. "Nip/Tuck" was witty, full of black humor and it treated every character with the utmost respect. However, after the third season, it became clear the show's going downhill. Like so many other series ("The Riches", "Dead Like Me", "Bad Girls", "Lost", "Prison Break" being some of them) "Nip/Tuck" completely looses it's edge. Why? It was going so well! Maybe they should have ended it after the third season instead of dragging it to the point where it's no longer watchable. My advice: watch the first three seasons, which are a perfect ten. Even season 4 is passable, but anything after that is plain sad and you WILL be disappointed.
[Rec] (2007)
After this, I lost my faith in IMDb forever...
Oh, my God. This is THE worst "horror film" I have ever seen in my whole life. After noticing that this film was rated so high on IMDb (A 7 something stars, which is really rare for a horror film), and being a HUGE horror fan, I rented "REC". And was soooo excited! Who wouldn't be? "A masterpiece!", "A shinny gem of horror films!" etc. After I finished it, I was ready to go back to the DVD store where I rented it and check if they gave me the right movie. This couldn't have been it, right?! After watching it AGAIN (to make sure I didn't miss something crucial the first time), I felt the urge to find the director of the movie, every single cast member, and every MORONIC IMBECILE who misguided me to watch this crap by rating it so high! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU, PEOPLE?!?! You call THIS a good, SCARY FILM??????!! ARE. YOU. KIDDING. ME?!?!?! This was a JOKE. A BAD one! I don't know what was more disgusting to me: the horribly amateurish "acting", the plot (was there any?) or the high ratings of this garbage! I think it was the latter. If you have NEVER watched another horror film before, you MIGHT enjoy this brain-insulting excuse for a movie. Trust me! Do NOT even think about watching this awful, disgusting, amateurish, horrible, worthless, appalling, pointless, stupid, overrated, crappy, boring, clichéd, abominable, trashy, brainless, make-me-want-to-scratch-my-eyes-out "MOVIE". Truly the worst horror film there is. No need to read any other reviews (except maybe the bad ones)!
Taken (2008)
Stop overrating mediocre films!!!
A 7.9 stars rating on IMDb??? Are you f-ing kidding me?! That's higher than "Girl Interrupted" and "Vanilla Sky", though neither of those films have anything to do with "Taken", but I'm just using them as an example of greatest movies ever. "Taken" was OK. Very enjoyable, but, non the less, terribly, and I mean TERRIBLY clichéd and completely predictable from start to finish... Acting was horrible, especially from Famke Janssen and the princess of clichés- Maggie Grace. Wow, that girl seriously can't act. It's impossible for her, I think! In every scene (except the ones where she's drugged)she's jumping around like a total moron, to display a 17-year-old-girl type of behavior, I guess. In my opinion, she fails miserably. Totally unconvincing. Liam was good, as always. Though his lines were probably the most clichéd thing about this whole movie. "Now is not the time for dick-measuring!" and other lines like that were just...dumb. Now, on the bright side, there ARE some cool, fast paced, typical Luc Besson chasing and fighting sequences, which were also clichéd, but still enjoyable. My main point is, people - Stop. Overrating. Mediocre. Films. PERIOD!
The Strangers (2008)
Were they stoned while they were making this garbage?!
Unless you've never watched another horror film before, maybe you'll appreciate this brain-insulting excuse for a movie. I REFUSE to believe I can't give this crap 0 stars! It started good, promising, a bit slow, but still watchable. After a while, I just wanted to kill the protagonists myself! But still I thought: "Can't be that bad, everyone who watched it says it's great and intelligent movie!" So I made a big, BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG mistake of watching it 'till the end. And by the end I wanted to take a sledge hammer and crack open my skull not believing that I wasted two hours of my life watching this "masterpiece". WTF were Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman thinking when they agreed to take on this stupid, dumb-ass crap?! What could the director, or anybody for that matter, have possibly LIKED about this "gem" that he made? Seriously, LAY OFF THE CRACK-PIPE! And that also goes for morons who actually praised this abomination and by doing so lured me into watching it! A 6.0 rating on IMDb?!?!??! Give me a break! I IMPLORE YOU, DO NOT WATCH THIS "MOVIE"! YOU WILL BE SOOOO SORRY!
Toy Story 3 (2010)
Cried like a baby! Well done, Pixar!
Oh, boy... How do you explain the excellence of this masterpiece to the new-age-hannah-montana-justin-bieber-facebook-addicted retards? You just can't I guess... So I'll try to explain it to those of you who actually HAD a normal childhood. First of all, let me just say that I wasn't a huge fan of the first two "Toy Story" movies. For me, the first one was too short and the human animation was too...fake. The second one was a bit, well, slow. But, this one... Is a true work of art. There were scenes where I laughed so hard, my ribs started to hurt (especially in the monkey scene, I SCREAMED out of laughter for straight ten minutes!). But, what I found to be most compelling about "Toy Story 3" is that it really made my whole childhood flash in front of my eyes. It just brought back so many memories, which I did not expect at ALL. By the end of the movie, I was crying like a baby. Pixar people have truly outdone themselves with this sparkling gem. Here's hoping for more movies from Pixar like this one in the future.
