War movie
26 March 2022
It's not a post apocalyptic world, it's war.

And as almost every war movie, it's about the atrocities of war, the stupidity of armed conflict, the absurdity of mankind.

Noomi Rapace is amazing, besides her atrocious wig. The ice skating in those beautiful landscapes is very enjoyable. The action sequences have nice rhythm and the visual effects are not too bad. Not unforgettable.

The casted are great but the casting is bad.
20 June 2021
Tahar Rahim and Jenna Coleman are great, really.

But this story would have needed an asian man and a french canadian woman to play this parts. Their identities are central to the story and repeted numerous times.

Tahar Rahim is in a "yellow face" with a lot of make up, a wig and contacts.

Jenna Coleman speaks french with a very strong english accent, that has nothing to do with a french canadian one, even though they tell us constantly she is "quebecoise".

This serie could have been great with the right casting. The story is crazy and real, the rythm and atmosphere are similar to the great serie Narcos. It could have been great.

A script would be nice
4 April 2020
Jim Jarmusch thought: what would be the coolest movie?

A zombie movie, super meta, with Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Chloë Sevigny, Steve Buscemi, Tilda Swinton, Iggy Pop, etc.

It's The Dead Don't Die.

What would have been really cool, would have been a script.

The action is nice, the writing is so bad
3 January 2020
The action scenes are nice. The actors are not all bad, it's a "80's spy movie" style of acting, but why not.

But then, the wrinting. Ludlum would have hate it. And there is so much details that shows that it has been written by US writers that NEVER traveled and did not care about doing a minimal research about the places they are supposed to film. Children in small villages in China wearing base ball caps? Come on. And how hard is it to spell "Colombia" the country and not "Columbia" the University.

I'm really sorry it was so bad, because I would have loved a Bourne tv show.

Not interesting, you will forget it as quick it ends.
23 November 2019
Not bad, just really not interesting. You will forget this movie as soon as it is finished. It is apparently supposed to be a thriller, but it hasn't any real suspense because the characters are not interesting so you don't care for them. Not bad visually, just not interesting.

Awful dialogues and flat plot
24 October 2019
I saw this movie without knowing what it was, just intrigued by the summary. I was really disappointed. The dialogues sound really bad, like a badly dubbed movie (I saw it in French, the original language). All the sound of the movies sound fake. Anyway, I was intrigued to see where it would go. It goes nowhere. We understand as soon as she appears who is the bad guy, and she is.

At the end of the movie I understood this was directed by Polanski. I was shocked! The actors are not bad, but the direction is. Really bad. Save two hours and see another movie.

Original, questioning and strange
18 November 2018
It's not that often that I don't really know what to think about a movie. The technical part is really enjoyable. The synopsis strange and mysterious. We enter little by little, day to day, in the reality of Jonathan and we understand very slowly what this reality means. It's dark. But not really sad. It's complex. The movie doesn't try to simplify or over explain it, which is great. But also left me with too much questioning to be at ease. I don't know if the ending is great and really smart, or a bit dull. I don't know. And it's fine.

And perhaps this movie is great because of this: it leaves you with more questions than answers.

Great ambiance movie
27 September 2018
I wasn't expecting so few to happen and at the same time so many surprises. It's original, smart, sensible.

Peter Dinklage is just perfect in this taciturne character.

Really loved it!

Talking gastronomy in 2017 without any female chef...
21 July 2018
This movie is as outdated as the french Michelin Star system is in today's gastronomy. No female chefs (and they are a lot with Michelin stars). No diversity (almost only Nordic cuisine, which is great, but is not enough to make a portrait of today's world high gastronomy). It's sad that someone who took so much time and travels to search gastronomy is only able to show so little of it :-/

Don't look for food, or culture, or acting, or narration...
11 April 2018
I would perhaps have been able to enjoy a viewing of that movie on an afternoon hangover on tv 10 years ago. Can't believe it's from 2018.

Has anybody in this movie ever been to Mexico? Has anyone any idea about mexican food? (Or directing actors? ).

It's kind of fascinating how much it's bad on every detail.

Really long commercial for Jason Momoa's clothes
18 February 2018
He was already in a commercial for Carhartt -the clothes brand-, but apparently it wasn't enough, so they made a 90 minutes movie. He changes clothes several times with the logo always perfectly on sight. It doesn't take 90 minutes to understand these clothes are perfect for winter and/or loggers. The writing is sooooo bad, every decision leads to a change of clothes, no other purpose in this movie.

But I have to admit the set and the lightning are not so bad, Jason Momoa's acting is ok (unlike the rest of the crew), the action is without purpose but has nice rhythm. And there is a few seconds of Momoa topless.

Worst food movie ever
27 December 2016
I love movies about food and gastronomy. This one is perhaps the worst I have ever seen.

The script is absolutely stupid and totally not realistic, the dialogues are really bad, the "cuisine" depicted in the movie is a kind of generic "french cuisine" that doesn't exist. During each sequence filmed in a kitchen or with people eating or tasting food there are huge mistakes that anyone who knows how to cook an egg can spot.

For the rest: no visual interest, bad actors, bad editing, nothing to save this story.

If you want to see a nice french food movie, better see "la Cuisine Américaine"... (which is kind of the original story anyway, but a way better movie), or "Haute Cuisine". Or any of the more than 100 movies in my public list "food movies" will do instead of this one.
