Uncut Gems (2019)
Mediocre at best
I REALLY wanted to like this movie. I mean, I paid my hard-earned money to watch it. There wasn't one sympathetic adult character in the film. I hated every one of them, and the CONSTANT screaming and talking over each other was just too much. I was actually HAPPY when Adam Sandler's character died because it resulted in a few seconds of blissful silence.
If you enjoy being anxious and walking out of the theater with a pounding headache, by all means check out this movie. I gave it five stars because the acting was decent and the story had potential, but it never tells us how Sandler actually acquired the uncut gems, why he thought they were worth $1.2 million, or what happened to the underground miner with the compound fracture. Why even include that opening scene? It's a hot mess of a film and I'm still scratching my head wondering how the hell it got an 8-star rating. I wish I'd gone to see "Knives Out" instead.
Tell Me Who I Am (2019)
Gut-wrenching
This is one of the most incredible stories I've ever heard. A heartbreaking film about love, loss, and self-sacrifice that will haunt you. Peace and blessings to you Marcus and Alex, and thank you for sharing your lives with us. 💔
Unplanned (2019)
Powerful!
One of the first scenes almost made me throw up (an ultrasound of a baby being dismembered during an abortion), but I was able to pull through and finish the film.
This is powerful stuff; I basically cried through the whole thing. Everyone in the theater did. As a nurse, I know exactly what abortion is and how they're performed, but knowing and seeing are completely different things.
This movie isn't for the faint of heart. I've never had a film effect me on such an emotional level before, and it's an important film that everyone should see regardless of which side of the fence you're on.
