Tehran (2020)
Disappointing Second Season
After high expectations from the first season, the second one fall flat on its face, despite a promising first episode. It goes from a complex, interesting plot that involved Israeli jets bombing an Iranian Nuclear facility, to an error-strewn series of bumbling plots to assassinate a senior IRGC official just because he ordered the execution of Tamar's Aunt. We didn't even find out what he was meeting the North Koreans about, and I'm sure that would have been far more interesting, than Tamar trying to seduce his playboy son. There was endless hype about Glenn Close joining the cast, but I fail to comprehend what she brought to the show apart from endless old ladies gossip. The new head of Mossad operations has a terrible accent and a face that you just want to punch. Tamar and Milad ended up being the most irritating characters with their endless bickering, and I'm so glad one of them got killed off in the end. I guess this is what happens when you become too politically correct and try to give annoying old women too much prominence in an action series. Compare it to the first season where you had interesting and charismatic characters like Karim and Parham. Even Vahid and Babak are interesting characters here, but they either get killed off or pushed to the sidelines.
Berlin Station (2016)
Falls apart badly
Season 1 is worth an 8 rating, with suspense, unpredictability and interesting characters. Season 2 is somewhat interesting if weak overall, but it all falls apart in Season 3, where a weak main story line is supplemented with some utterly useless side-stories. The whole Diver plot is of no relevance and the 'twist' ending is utterly underwhelming. the April Lewis love affair only detracted from the overall story, and one gets the feeling that her inclusion in the overall plot is just political correctness.
Dirilis: Ertugrul (2014)
Nothing like Game of Thrones
The first season is generally watchable and entertaining, but it goes downhill from there. The good guy is surrounded by 10 bad guys and can easily fight them off. If he can't, then there is a miraculous last minute save from an unexpected source. This doesn't happen once though, but is a recurring theme throughout. The Mongols are supposed to be some of the fiercest and ruthless warriors around, but are easily defeated by some middle aged Turkish women. We never saw a proper showdown between the Turk and Mongol armies, just some pathetic half-hearted ambushes. And the worst part is the annoying drama between the contstantly bickering women. I guess they had to incorporate elements of Indian soap operas to appeal to a wider audience. This is nothing like Game of Thrones, and the comparisons are beyond a joke now.
Treadstone (2019)
Entertaining and confusing.
Interesting and engaging series which began brightly but became increasingly muddled with the introduction of various plot intricacies. Some of the flashback scenes were a drag, even if they did provide some context to present day happenings. The fight scenes are quite brilliant though, even if unrealistic at times, reminiscent of some of what we saw in the Bourne movies. The first season ends in quite a cliffhanger and I do hope we see a second season soon.
Hanna (2019)
Season 2 disappoints
While Season 1 was great because of Hanna's backstory, and her relationship with Erik (despite that annoying travelling family), Season 2 is just a big borefest, seemingly more intent on projecting feminist superiority and teenage drama. Doesn't really help when all the trainees have the on-screen personality of a dead elephant.
