Gunsmoke: Trip West (1964)
Dennis The Menace's Dad Escapes
Kind of anyway! A nice enough episode but I quickly grew weary of Elwood and his naïveté - and not sure if others had this problem but I simply couldn't get his Dennis the Menace character out of my head. Perhaps they should have recruited Jay North to be a part of the opening where even kids abused poor Elwood. (I think I'll watch the opening again just to make sure he isn't in it. Anyway, he's a tough guy to feel too sorry for (believing an Elixer hawker that he's on death row - even if he is the General from I Dream of Jeannie), thinking a gal so out of his league is gonna go to California with him; and harassing a gun slinger (who more likely should have just beat him to a pulp for calling him out on the street). Quick correction to one subscriber - the gal never went back to her ex boss out of love to him, it was to try and save Elwood. Also noticed how often when a guest star takes over an episode, how little Festus gets in air time....in this one, more Festus please.
Gunsmoke: Bently (1964)
Goodbye Chester Goode
A terrific episode with lots of twists and turns; a dying man's confession actually unfolding as untrue; a jealous husband allowing his fears to ruin his very prosperous life; a wife turning on her husband in order to do right by Chester; and best of all a fake hired gunman who takes the money to do the hit but states to Chester "I've never killed a man in my life". But the best part is Dennis Weaver's performance here. His characterization of Chester, in his final role, is a distinct departure from the norm. His serious, tenacious side, that if a leader, comes out. He is intent on solving a crime that he suspects is false. I couldn't help but wonder, with his lack of smile and foolishness, if Weaver didn't realize this was his last performance - and he killed it, right up to walking the widow to the stage, again, all in a serious and professional manner. GOLD.
Gunsmoke: Night Incident (1955)
Matt The Good Guy
Got to agree with reviewer "tmccleese", I can't understand the negative /confused comments. To those who can't figure the heartfelt ending out, Hinton's wife was kidnapped by Cheyennes & he went broke trying to find her. Once found, he also learned she now had a daughter (obviously conceived from rape). Unlike how many would have reacted back then, he accepted them both as his responsibility. To keep his family's horror away from the likely humiliation & shame from ignorant townspeople, they lived outside of town & robbed drunken people to get enough money to move to Oregon & start a new life.
The Addams Family: Morticia and Gomez vs. Fester and Grandmama (1966)
NON-STOP FUN
In an episode that had enough material to have been at least three episodes, M & G vs G & UF is one of the best! The living room is ever changing with wild ring toss games, polo, packing for a trip to see Hurricane Zsa Zsa, family badminton and is even split in two with a white line during a dispute between the two couples. One of the only episodes where some characters (Gomez & Morticia) are seen on a different set while visiting the hurricane site.
Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo (1966)
See you later. idiots.......it's for you
Such a great flick, never too many times can you watch it, certainly bloody and murder ridden....but also humorous and witty, with some funny lines that have become classics, here's some, feel free to add to it: "See you later, idiots"...then..."it's for you" (says Clint to Eli).
After losing Angel Eyes in the street fight, Tucco tries to read the note left by Angle Eyes.....Blondie helps (LOL).
"When you have to shoot, shoot....don't talk".
When the one armed man seeks revenge on Tucco..but talks instead of shooting.
"There are two kinds of men in the world my friend, those with loaded guns and those who dig".
Post shooting scene.
"You were lucky to have me so close".
Tucco tells Blondie after bringing him to the seminary for treatment, after causing the injuries himself.
"We want to enlist, General".
Tucco says to the Union Capt while in their camp.
So many more.......
