Dragged on for too long
4 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
---SPOILERS AHEAD---

Let's start with the plot (or plothole), Madhavan, as shown in the film needs the parents to send off their girl by saying some black magic verses, he won't leave until he gets their consent & he has 108 girls under his spell in this movie, so I still wonder if he visited families of all these girls to get their parents approval & no one but our hero is the only one pursuing him!! There were 57 cases registered and police are unable to find this crowd of 100 odd girls, this is beyond belief!!

If the 'getting approval' bit is removed there's nothing else in the film, the whole sequence in the house, which is 1:30 mins at least just feels like added for shock value.

Acting wise, Madhavan was alright and so was the girl who was under his spell, but I felt the parents could have done better/different but they were in shock throughout the film. They should have been a bit smarter and try to engage Madhavan & tie the girl up, cover her ears, tie up Madhavan and cover his mouth, torture him probably to know how to undo the spell.

Good thing is movie does not have any songs and stays focussed on the plot and has a satisfying ending.

If you are patient & can bear seeing innocent kids getting beaten up, then it's a one time watch, otherwise avoid.

Poorly made, totally unbelievable
13 March 2024
Wish it had better dialogues, actors, screenplay and title, the title gives it a propaganda feel, on top of that, the dialogues are cringe & acting + dialogue delivery hammy. Felt like it was made for North Indian by North Indian with no knowledge or understanding of Kerala and it's culture.

I couldn't last more than 30 mins of the film, it was mainly the dialogue & acting which I couldn't stand, felt like they were mocking South Indians.

If the director/writers had put their hearts to it, they could have made an effective and closer to reality thriller, but clearly that was not on makers mind, when propaganda works, who needs story, script or actors.

Save your precious 2+ hours and avoid this hamfest, unless you are planning on watching an unintentional comedy :-)

Starts well but once they find the killer, which is 30-35 mins before the climax, the movie just goes downhill and ends on a preachy note. Unlike the CBI diary movie series directed by the same director, this movie lacks subtlety and comes off really loud.

Movie's got some subplots which don't go anywhere, like Jagathi's & just feels like fillers.

Screenplay could have been tighter and movie better edited. Acting is ok, nothing memorable.

One time watch at best, but if missed, you are not missing much.

That's it, thanks. Just fillers beyond this...

DCH of this decade
29 December 2023
Pleasantly surprised at how good this movie is, did not have big expectations going in but by the time it ended, fell in love with it, reminded me of DCH.

The movie mainly focuses on Gen-Z, their problems and Social media (read influencers). Despite not being a Gen-Z myself, I was still able to relate with the characters.

Acting by Siddhant & Adarsh are near perfect with Ananya also doing a good job unlike some of her previous roles. The music is nice, probably all songs but one in the movie are good. The standup comedy scenes are really funny & the final standup act by Siddhant was extremely heart touching, well written & acted.

I can't find any fault in the movie TBH, the comedy, emotions, acting, story, music, everything was just right.

I highly recommend this movie, better than all mindless action movies released recently.

Wish they had done it differently!!
5 October 2023
I have read the book its based on and its a good read, but taking it and changing bits for the purpose of glorifying the central character just feels like cheating, either you follow the book completely (probably only changing names) or just change it so much that the central character is not glorified, given his notoriety; we dont want another glamorised D-company story where he gets away with it. Shows some balls and make something different, dont just make him the hero of his story.

Acting's average, only K K and the actress who play his wife play their parts well, rest are forgettable. The actress who play sister is extremely annoying, I wish someone had shot her dead :D, the way she delivers dialogues with no expression made it even more irritating. The guy who plays Dawood is extremely average and the way his character is written feels a bit odd, w/o much effort people just start following/worshipping him as if he is some kind of evil messiah and people are ready to die for him just like that. The character who plays is girl friend also is dumb with no morals who's OK with all the killings, not sure if its based on a real character though.

Production and other technical aspects are good, the period feel is good.

One time watch at best.

The movie lacks logic
11 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The movie starts off alright, but falls flat towards the end. The climax would not have happened if Tapsree's character had not insisted on returning home after being operated on, against doctor's advice; why would any one who cant see return to a place they are not familiar with, especially when there's no one else living there. On top of that, not showing the killer's face after he appears on screen makes it obivious he's the killer.

I have not seen the original Spanish film so cant comment if the above mentioned logical flaw is in the original as well.

This movie is similar to Dobaara, which was disappointing as well.

Boolywood need to learn to adapt movies better if they are remaking international movies, a simple copy & paste of story and screenplay is not sufficent.

Prem-astra?
10 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The movie is just about okish, nothing to write home about. Not much of story here, and dialogues were disappointing and felt like was written on the scene, left no impact whatsoever. And climax, not sure what to make if it, looks like Love is the shortcut to conquer all negative forces, when you run out of ideas. They should have just called it Prem-astra lol.

Performance wise no one stands out, even Amitabh whom I totally adore, was just 'sufficient' in the movie, I felt Ranbir was miscast as Shiva, should have been someone younger, felt a bit out of place with him trying to come to terms with his powers, the rest of the kids at the ashram were 1/2 his age. Alia looks gorgeous but has nothing much to do but smile in most scenes, she's so much better than that, only if the makers had watched Gangubai or Raazi, they would have cast somebody else to do this role. The villains in the movie have nothing much to do either as all acting is done by their red lenses & VFX. Presence of SRK & Nagarjuna is just to pull in some crowd but don't have much to do in the movie but die for Shiva to survive.

The good bit is the VFX, but again that is also very limited in variety, possibly, that's what worked in favour of the movie, cramming different types of VFX might have lowered the overall quality of VFX.

Anyway, the movie's made good money to warrant a sequel, hope they do a better job technically on the sequel.

One time watch.

Works better than the original at an emotional level
28 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The movie like it's original is not great, but the changes it made to accommodate to Indian audience is good and overall works better as a emotional romantic drama with some comedy. The original was too flat with no one but Hanks carrying the whole movie, surely with some excellent acting. The songs are excellent here and movie did not feel like a drag.

The negative bits are Aamir's acting, especially if you are comparing it to Hanks'. The fact that the same kids play Laal & Rupa's character when they are 7 & 13-14, the Pakistani soldier getting treated in India without anyone realising he's a commander in Pakistani army, to name a few.

The movie has better written role for Kareena Kapoor unlike the original where Robin Wright's character is a supporting one. None of events shown in original resonate with Indian audiences, but the choice of events in this movie is very much India centric and anyone who was raised in 80s-90s can easily identify with them.

Movie is a good one time watch if not more.

P. S: In a normal situation, I would rate this movie 7/10, but since many right wingers have voted it 1 without watching, the extra 3 is to compensate for that.

Absolute trash
15 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Extremely disappointed with the movie, expected a lot more from Anurag Kashyap, as I am big fan of his work. Not sure if it's a frame by frame copy of original or just a poor adaptation. I couldn't put the movie in a particular genre; when it started, it felt like sci-fi but clearly a few minutes into the movie, you realise that's not the case, so has to be fantasy if you have to explain most of the plot points in the movie. Which means you can just show anything without giving any explanation and that's what this movie was. And by the end, there's clearly no logical explanation to why things happened how they did like e.g. Why would touching someone flash memories of their time together or why Ponnu's behaviour post the 'communication' moment was irrational.

Felt like watching a Fantasy multiverse movie, where people's (or at least Pannu's character's) consciousness could travel through universe just because of a storm or because she was the lead!!

I would just skip this & watch Kashyap's next outing, hope he does not disappoint with his next one.

What rubbish!!
11 September 2022
Don't know where to start, the movie was a let down on many levels, but TBH, I had low expectations, still was disappointed.

Just to confuse the audience on who the villain is, some lame dialogues are delivered by the characters, you keep hearing 'ek villain' through out the movie. Acting by every single actor is abysmal, story is a joke, screenplay is just stupid. The whole of Mumbai is empty for their convenience, nobody in metro, zoo.

The only good thing in the movie was Disha, not the actress but the eye candy.

If you don't watch it, you are not going to miss anything, so don't waste your time.

Overall disappointing
3 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The movie is a carbon copy of Ratsasan, they should have tried to fix some of the screenplay/story issues that the original had, like the climax's 'magical' sequences or nobody unable to locate a magician whom they have hired at multiple schools. And I highly doubt someone with the fast ageing condition will be able to do what they do in the movie.

Akshay Kumar is miscast in the movie, he calling Hrishita Bhatt, who's 14 years his junior, didi was a bit too much. The role should have gone to a younger actor like Rajkumar Rao or Ayushman Khurana or someone else but not him.

Rakul Preet also has nothing to do in the movie but look good, and she does that, nothing more, nothing less, looks like she just came out a beauty parlour in every scene. Instead she should have been given the role of the SHO, a love angle is not always necessary, especially in movies like this.

People, who have not seen the original can watch this, it's not a complete waste of time.

What was the point of the movie
13 July 2022
The movie was fine till the climax... felt like I wasted 2 hours watching something which did not not lead to anything.

The movie starts off well with some amount of character development and built up to the interval, where we learn more about the 'central' character. What follows is an investigation which ultimately does not go anywhere, just felt like watching a news report or documentary (even news has more masala now a days).

The movie is not unwatchable, as acting and direction is good, just wish it had a better climax.

Good but only 40-50%
3 July 2022
The part that showcases the suffering of KP is commendable but unfortunately does not include any real people or names (except for newspaper clippings), would have been brave of the makes if, at least, the names of the terrorist were used w/o alteration, they should be named and shamed.

But the part that takes place in current period does not have any relevance to the KPs story and just feels like Director's attempt at tackling two topics he's been vocal about and comes off as nothing but propaganda. Would have been better if roles of governments (central & governer) were also shown in the movie except for this track, would have given it more authencity.

Good:
  • The cinematography
  • The atmostphere
  • Rawness of the individual events

Bad:
  • A non-relevant Uni narrative (could have utilised that time going in depth of what lead to the exodus and roles of various gov officials)
  • Fictionalisation of the events and losing names of the real people behind the events.

Surprised it does not have better rating
2 July 2022
Warning: minor spoilers

Movie is an engaging thriller with some minor chiches but still manages to keep you glued to the screen till the very end. I highly recommend watching it on Zee5, if you are subscribed to it.

The good:
  • The characters (especially the villians)
  • Main character's conviction to get the stalkers punished
  • Length of the movie (making it fast paced despite not being an action triller)
  • Acting

The bad:
  • The end (felt a bit old school)
  • The bluetooth-SIM thing may not actually be possible
  • Super helpful police (but a big issue though)

Last 40 mins ruined a great movie
26 May 2022
Loved the movie for about 2:15ish mins and then came the start of the climax, which literally ruined everything, it was like watching Baaghi, where two Indians (one injured with unlimited supply of arrows) take on the entire British battalion and kill every single one them. I wish it had a better climax, felt like something came over Rajamouli or he suddenly gave into distributors demand and ruined a well made movie.

Masses might still like it but for a non-Telugu speaking audience, who has liked his previous work, the ending of the movie was a let down.

Season 2- a dumb horror show
10 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Have no idea what writers had in mind, killing off every good character by the end of season 2, leaving the two most disliked characters alive, who are audiences supposed to root for now, if a season 3 is made.

Extremely disappointed with the ending of the season 2, season 1 was well written & paced and ends with some hope for the victims, this one felt more like a horror movie where the villain gets the last laugh.

This is just lame writing, and focusses a lot on the drug business sidelining the revenge and justice angle.

On top of that, with so many bullets fired, it never hits the main characters, even when they have a vantage point.

Where do I even begin on character choices, when Timma had the chance he does not shoot, gets killed by his crush. Why does the DSP not shoot the gangsters but shoots the girl who he's there to arrest, shooting at people with automatic weapons is a crime as well and how is it any smaller than killing the main character.

Even Mirzapur redeemed itself at the end of season 2, but this show has failed miserably.

This season was absolute bullish!t, best to avoid it.

What!! A 70 year old agile Leatherface!!
26 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
What is it with films like these, first the new Halloween had a 70ish old Mike Myers and now an even older Leatgerface, why can't they just reimagine it with something else, or just stop making it.

I can't imagine a 70 year old killer bumping off people with such ease, on top of that not dying even after being shot, stabbed & drowned. How stupid can these movies (including Halloween) get!!

Stop making these (and people, stop watching, please)

Best avoided IMHO.

Decent story but ruined by Shefali's hamfest
2 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The weak part of this series is the acting of Shefali, she was never convincing as the evil doctor, the most annoying part was how she was delivering dialgues, like someone said in a review here, she was trying to seduce or something... its was a LOL moment.

In my personal opinion, she should just stick to doing positive characters, as I really loved in Delhi Crimes and I know is a good actor.

Kirti, looks pretty but does not have many expressions on her face and I feel can't emote through her eyes making it difficult to feel much for her character, but overall she did well.

Vishal Jhetwa & Riddhi Kumar's characters are well written and believable and they play their part well, cant find any fault in their acting.

Story is OK but nothing path breaking, if it was supported by some good acting by the main cast, especially Shefali then it would have been a wonderful show. Overall quality is good, good production values, etc. But nothing memorable.

Good for one time watch, if not seen already :)

Seriously... that can't be the killer
31 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I just can't believe a 9 year old killed & cleaned up the murder scene like a pro, what was an enjoyable 7 episodes disappoints in the finale, needed better writing to explain how it was done, to make it convincing. Dad helping out would have been a bit better.

Reminded me of movie Orphan to an extent.

Missed opportunity
15 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The show has potential but makers should not have gotten greedy and produced an inconclusive season. Show starts at a point which looks like the end of story but when the first season ends you feel far off from that point (or was it just a dream, probably no!!). You just feel you have wasted close to 8 hours getting nowhere in the story.

The main character's characterisation is also not very convincing, at some point you feel he wants to get out but the very next he just goes with the flow. Takes him ages to come to a decision to take 'some' control of his life but you start feeling if it's even worth doing anything now as we have seen his degradation w/o any resistance whatsoever in the previous episodes and will any of what he's doing is even going to work. He just comes off as a common (not smart in anyway) man try to handle situations as it comes along and just lucky to be still alive.

On top of that the other storyline involving his love interest is also left open, so basically everything is just meant for next season, which feel like cheating when the entire season does not provide closure to any of main stories in the show.

If they can follow up the season with a part 2 in the next month or so I don't see much point watching this season.

Best movie based on war/real events from Bollywood
14 August 2021
I can't remember a better movie on war/real events made in Bollywood. The movie is extremely subtle, no jingoism, no unnecessary nationalism, nothing, yet never boring or felt like a documentary, full marks to the makers of the movie for that. Siddharth's acting could have been better in a few areas but overall, he's good and shine in all his scenes where he's not romancing Kiara. Kiara is good in her small part & so is the rest of the cast, I can't find fault in at least the main supporting cast. The one romantic song is melodious and thankfully there's not many songs in the movie, which is how a war movie should be.

Wish I could watch this in cinema.

Definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to see a good, close to reality movie.

Totally illogical story
11 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Don't know how could anyone take this movie seriously. A ghost haunting 4 mobile phones or just the mobile frequency? After watching the movie, I am completely confused what the ghost actually possesed, and what kind of logic is phone staying in the open increasing its negative energy causing the countdown to run faster and when locked inside a Faraday's cage unable to do any countdown... feels like this was this written by some kid!!

This movie does not get anything right TBH, casting is questionable, acting, at best average, story as mentioned above is totally illogical. They should stop calling it a techno horror, lets not call someone's illogical thinking techno and insult technology please.

Avoid and save 2+ hours of your life.

Why no one called police??
29 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Stylish without any substance, central theme is similar to John Wick & visually it's similar to Jallikattu, but I don't understand one thing when you son/husband is getting brutally beaten, will you just stand there watching or call police? They were watching as if a gladiator match is going on.

It's hard to believe someone who's beaten so brutally, hanged from a tree and drowned in a well manage to gather so much strength to do what he does, felt like Rajni entered his body. And in the end was it all justified, probably no.

It's not a total waste, if you like raw action then you might enjoy it, action sequences are pretty good and well choreographed. Technically, I can't fault the movie much, but overall not impressed. 4* are for action alone.

Good effort and FO idiots who don't understand good cinema
23 May 2021
All in all a good movie, a different story, very much grounded in reality and does not try to whitewash any character, and a good convincing ending. Best thing is the movie does not try to become a romantic drama, stays true to its genre.

Good cinematography and excellent choice of location, only one song, which does not feel out of place.

Just that pacing it a bit slow, but the location will keep you engrossed 😉

And to people who don't like nepokids should understand one thing, by down rating good work they are discrediting everyone associated with the movie, these nepokids will keep getting movies no matter what. If you can't stand them, just stay away.

Had originally rated 8 but changed to 10 to counter the idiots who hate nepokids.

Not worth your time
24 April 2021
Expectations were not high given the star kid's presence in it. But was hoping it might have something worthwhile given rest of the cast & the production team. But was extremely disappointed by the movie overall, poor story and screenplay, a muddled message, felt like they did not think through the whole thing properly. By the end, I was totally confused by its message and the whole built up to the end just felt senseless or unnecessary.

Won't recommend wasting your time on this even if you are have nothing else to do.
