Lucifer (2016–2021)

Something for everyone #savelucifer
17 May 2018
Lucifer is my favorite show of the last 10 years. Not since Lost have I been so engrossed in a show that I will watch and rewatch it constantly.

It has something for everyone, it's a sexy supernatural drama with a mystery to solve each week, all done with a huge dose of humour, and a real love story. Just what Dr Linda (therapist to the devil himself) ordered.

The best thing about Lucifer for me is how well written the characters are, and how brilliantly acted by all. Tom Ellis in the title role deserves special mention, he often has me in tears one minute and laughing the next.

This show will make you have sympathy for the devil, but don't worry that's fine as Lucifer is more about redemption than evil so even if you are religious you shouldn't have any problems squaring your views with the content of the show.

And on a final shallow note this is the best looking cast ever assembled, the action scenes are great, and the special effects outstanding.

1 of my top 3 movies this year
3 July 2007
To put my review in context I should probably stress the fact that I am a white British female with a love of musicals and romantic comedies. This was my first ever Bollywood film (having had my interest stirred when the IIFA came to Yorkshire) and I adored every minute. So much so I have now seen it 3 times.

I am sure that there are probably better acted, more dramatic, more credible Bollywood movies. But for pure pleasure and enjoyment this was a revelation.

I found the leads very likable indeed. Apologies to anyone who thinks they were 1 dimensional, to me they were just good fun.

The dance sequences were spectacular, better than anything I've seen Hollywood offer in many a year. Amitabh Bachan's intermittent appearances singing the title track were delightful and JBJ the song is so catchy I've been singing it ever since.

In short, if you enjoy a light comedy with excellent singing and dancing routines and some OTT cheesy romance then you'll probably enjoy this as much as I did.

Lightweight but uplifting comedy
10 February 2007
I'll admit it, I love this film! OK, the plot line is thinner than paint stripper, the lines more mildly amusing than witty, and the acting isn't going to win any Oscars, BUT...

it's one of those movies that just makes you feel good.

Right from the hilarious opening, showing Hugh's make-believe band "Pop" in their "MTV/VH1" hit video "Pop Goes My Heart", you can't help but smile. Obviously it is especially amusing for those of us who lived through the pop excesses of the 80s, but I have to say the teens in the audience seemed to enjoy it too.

All the songs are pure cheese (and incredibly infectious), which coupled with some amusing lines, a very lovable Hugh Grant, a very cute Drew Barrymore, and fabulous supporting roles from Kristen Johnston and Aasif Mandvi make this movie a great romantic comedy for those of us who actually enjoy a "bit of fluff".

Far better than average UK mini series
20 September 2005
Brilliant series documenting 4 Geordie's lives, from young adulthood to middle/old age, and set to a backdrop of politics. More a social documentary than a mini series, not only on our times but on the fallibility of the human race.

The acting is outstanding, particularly from Christopher Eccleston, Daniel Craig and Gina McKee who have all become very successful, in part, no doubt, due to this series.

Combine this with an amazing soundtrack covering over 30 years of great music and it gets even better. The inclusion of Pulp's "Common People" in the final episode is one of the most effective uses of music in film ever! The song builds as the action builds and the crescendo is heartbreaking but so realistic that I challenge you not to cry in despair for our young.

US citizens may find the accents a bit hard to cope with, heck even some Londoner's will struggle, but it is well worth persevering.

Moving, gritty, realistic OFITN is a must-see.
