The South Wales Police are full of it !
22 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I have such respect for law enforcement in general. But let's face it, at the end of the day they are human beings - men and women who are just as capable of making poor decisions just like the rest of us.

During Episode 4, when the very smug South Wales Police Chief replied to the interviewer "Why would a police officer kill a whole family ?" For the exact reason i mentioned above. I had to briefly turn the documentary off. I was fuming. I mean what ? Like a police officer can do no wrong ??? I think we already know that's some bullcaca. It just seemed so obvious to me they were protecting one of their own. South Wales Officer Stuart Lewis to be exact. Neither he or his identical twin brother Stephen were PROPERLY investigated according to this doc. That same smug police chief in the beginning said something to the effect of "Arm chair detectives think they know who did it but they don't have the facts... and we follow the evidence." Only they didn't. And might I add his air of arrogance was so telling, as if it were his way or the highway.

Now I'm not saying Stuart or Stephen (or Stephen's wife Alison) absolutely had anything to do with the murders or thwarting the investigation, however either it was the way this show was edited or there really was no solid forensic evidence that Morris, the man serving time for this crime, actually committed it. They kept harping on this gold chain with brick dust and green paint which seemed circumstantial at best. Bottom line for me is that it created enough doubt that I question the motives of South Wales law enforcement. It didn't help that the filmmaker referenced other cases where people were wrongly convicted of crimes after evidence was planted and reports were doctored by these very same officers who, once again, could and would do no wrong, right ? Ha !

Production-wise, this was very well done ! Highly recommend this eye opener if you're a true crime aficionado.

It's The View for True Crime
18 April 2024
I love this show ! I love Nancy Grace, Maria & Derrick ! The last episode was in January ? I hope this show wasn't canceled although I do see that there is no end date so that's encouraging. It covers the latest breaking true crime cases that have made the headlines and doesn't go on and on for 44 minutes about one case with terrible reenactments and interviews that linger a little too long on grieving family members crying when the editor should have made that cut to keep it movin' !

I get that Nancy Grace isn't for everyone but I personally am tired of seeing these true crime experts that have absolutely no personality. Sooooo I am patiently waiting for new episodes please and thank you !

Hilarie Burton Morgan is just fine as the host
21 March 2024
It seems to me a lot of those who have such a strong negative opinion / problem with Ms Morgan as the host should be looking more deeply into themselves as to why. These overly critical reviews are reminiscent of those I've seen for another great host of another true crime show, Paula Zahn. They are both very attractive white ladies. So yeah, what are we really angry about here ? And I get it, to each their own but gimme a break !!

This show IS different and important in that it focuses on getting justice for the victims when justice is nonexistent. Imagine spending 23 years behind bars for a crime you did not commit and because this show challenged that verdict, it's either overturned or dropped and you are rightfully set free.

I, too, am an avid true crime junkie and know most of these docs / shows have a definitive ending with the case usually having been solved CORRECTLY. This show should actually be called something along the lines of WRONGFULLY ACCUSED or QUESTIONABLE VERDICT or something to that effect but whatever.

We'll be needing more of this. Oh yeah, and don't change the host. Please and thank you.

Sorry UPDATE : Ok so I just saw Episode 6 which does not involve anyone who was wrongfully convicted so apparently they're not all like that. My bad !

This show is FUN !!
13 March 2024
I'm surprised there aren't more written reviews for this show. It's excellent ! It really moves along at a nice pace with never a dull moment and although I don't speak Spanish fluently I binged all 8 episodes in one sitting even while reading subtitles and they speak fast. The actors are all EXCELLENT ! Paulina, Azul and Hernan are PERFECT ! The story really spoke to me, particularly the way Amanda's character felt about playing second fiddle to Vicky as both of Cesar's daughters AND the struggle to adapt to change while remaining relevant during a "second act" of your life

So maybe there's nothing that particularly new or groundbreaking here but even after I binged the entire season I immediately started looking for the US version (which btw I think would do really well).

Um... 5.9 ???
22 June 2023
At the time of this writing, the rating is 5.9 which is ridiculously low for such a very riveting and compelling British true crime show. I'm a huge true crime fan and caught this on Discovery+ and was very pleased not to see any annoying dramatically recreated re-enactments that the producers clearly take creative liberties with to exploit victims and their families. Yes they can become somewhat repetitive but all in all, definitely not a 5.9. I'd say more like a 7.5/8 and of course gave it a 10 to offset the low score. Give it a watch if you're into this "genre" and you won't be disappointed.

Love the teaming up of these two powerhouse women
7 May 2022
Just watched this with my Discovery+ subscription. Very interesting cases dissected by these two insightful women, a prosecutor and a crime scene investigator, who both have 40 years of experience. They really break down everything both legally and forensically. Would love to see more of this !

Alina is what makes this series great !!
20 March 2022
Firstly there is no correlation between the color of a persons hair and how good of a job they do at work. Alina is great and I believe she is a genuinely good person who got involved as a crime scene investigator to provide a voice for victims.

The best are the looks she gives. She does a great deadpan when she clearly feels like the other person she's speaking with needs to get a clue.

A fascinating watch. True crime is definitely a thing right now so we'll be needing more of this.

Wow Season 2 is even better !!
5 March 2022
I love this show. Honestly I wasn't a huge Kat Dennings fan until now. It's like Aubrey Plaza when she did the Child's Play reboot. Now I love them both and I look for stuff they're in. And Shay Mitchell is flawless. Brenda Song - amazing !! We need more Dollface so keep 'em coming. Please and thank you !!

Much better now !!
4 February 2022
I rated this 10 stars when it first came out because Kenan is a hilarious force to be reckoned with even though the narrative and quite frankly laughs were lacking. It is now February 2022 and it has gotten soooooooooo much better. I love all the characters (and even care about them now) and it's actually funny.

Enjoy !!

My takeaway is never give up on an addict
8 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Because you never know at what point an addict will get so sick and tired of their lifestyle that they will once and for all quit.

Whether it's the first, or the 101st time trying to get clean, never give up. That goes for the addicted as well as the support network.

Life CAN have a happy ending !!

(Oh yeah excellent film btw loved Glenn Close & Mila Kunis' performances just wow)

This show is absolutely perfect !!
13 June 2021
To those that just keeping going on about the vapidness of the characters need to see Season 2 where a lot of the veneer begins to come off. It's really great how easy it has become to separate the character from the facade and rooting them to rather intriguing backstories.

I will say the story really resonates with me because I am Anna Paquin's character. It made me realize certain things about myself that need to change. And how my self serving destructiveness has affected others.

"If there are no consequences, they will never stop." I actually don't know if that's the EXACT quote, and it's something I've heard several times before... but for whatever reason, I needed to hear it again.

Well done. Can't wait for Season 3 !!

Very well done fun show
24 May 2021
The lead women are great. They have perfect chemistry while each being so different. The current rating on this (4.7 / 10) does not reflect how good this show really is. This is from the creator of Living Single and I was happy to see Erika Alexander in the first episode !

One of the most intense ID shows
5 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This show is incredibly engaging. Heavy on the emotion from very detailed first hand accounts from survivors left for dead during heartbreaking massacres. You won't find detectives trying to crack the case using forensic science here. This is straight up reliving some of the most terrifying accounts of surviving nearly being murdered while your loved ones around you don't make it. I actually had to turn off episode 5 entitled My Scar while she was describing her ex's stabbing rampage because it was too overwhelming. I have to watch Cheers now to unwind from binging 4 1/2 episodes of this emotional rollercoaster ride.

This is not the Netflix 4 episode series
16 February 2021
So this is not Crime Scene : The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel, currently on Netflix. Starting that version prompted me to look up other versions because as many are saying (about the Netflix doc) it is repetitive with a lot of unrelated info as I just wanted to delve into the mystery surrounding the disappearance of Elisa Lam.

Anyway this is your typical Investigation Discovery production that gets 10/10 for episode 2 which solely focuses on Ms. Lam. The other 2 episodes delve into different cases / strange occurrences which are interesting too but you don't have to watch all three.

The Best Show on the Subject
21 November 2020
There's something about the mystery of people going missing that has always intrigued me (for whatever reason). The unsolved cases are more exciting to me than the ones that end up with usually a young woman dying at the hands of a monster (I don't like those but unfortunately it happens more frequently than I had thought).

What's great about this show is that the violence (re-enacted or described) is kept to a minimum and even nonexistent in some episodes as the outcomes of most of these cases are unknown.

What moves me the most are the tireless efforts of the families and friends in trying to find their missing loved ones. I love it when they are found alive at the end. Some of the unsolved cases are heartbreaking and so I'll take to Twitter to share them because somebody out there knows something. This series has also prompted me to purchase pepper spray for and ingrain in my young nieces the need to know how to defend themselves.

Also, can we stop with the plea deals already ? Some of these animals need to be exterminated.

Excellent show !

Justice for the murdered
20 September 2020
This show is excellent ! It just reels you in until you've binged the whole (and only) season so far. Sadly, as many true crime shows go, a majority of these victims are women. I feel like more people need to know how to defend themselves as well as carry some type of weapon or protection, not that anyone needs to be paranoid but in these instances, the "safety first" rule definitely applies. The impact of these atrocities is exponential. Honestly, these monsters deserve the death penalty and it just seems like that's becoming less and less of an option because of too many bleeding heart liberals. Yeah I went there. These innocent people didn't deserve the fates they met - the fates they were forced to meet and as far as I'm concerned, an eye for an eye.

A must-see... Ignore the narrow-minded rants
13 April 2020
You know, it's really sad how some people have to turn everything into a race war without sensibly processing truth, reality and more importantly context. This is not a docu-series made to condemn or bash Whites. It is literally an actual account of what happened, and the effect it had on the Black community of Atlanta in the late 70s, early 80s. It is not some biased twisted narrative that the filmmakers are trying to use to pit one race against the other.

Sadly of course this will fall on (some) deaf ears but my experience was extremely positive. It really gave me a sense of the climate in ATL during that time. It's poignant, eye-opening and yes, at times angering because it presents to the viewer objectively what actually occurred and the fact that it took 9 murders before it was even taken seriously.

Very very well done ! The next episode can't come soon enough.

Even during a pandemic with nothing to do, this sucks
12 April 2020
When I came to, towards the very end (thank God), I thought initially somehow I was watching a local cable channel's broadcast of a middle school talent show. But alas, it was still this godawful abomination that had put me to sleep in the first place.

Iliza is amazing and so funny... in her stand up role that made her famous... Which is why I was so looking forward to this.

To be fair, I started to watch it again thinking maybe I had missed something. Maybe I was just in a mood not conducive to connecting with comedy. But once again, alas, 15 mins into it, I realized that's the one thing that was actually missing from this steaming pile of caca.

I'm sorry I respect Iliza soooooooo much, which is why it is with a heavy heart that I even have to go there. But if I can save just one life, from possibly falling victim to this scam, it will have been worth it.

Please, keep your distance at least 6 MILES away from this crap.

"Dread" Delivers
15 June 2010
I remember reading this short story by Clive Barker in his "Books of Blood" series way back when. I am always leery about a "short story" being produced into a feature-length film (ie Children of the Corn, The Box etc. etc.) However... Wow. This movie rocks. Never a dull moment. Taut. Suspenseful. Gory. All of the gruesome ingredients for appealing scare-fare. And in terms of the film stock they used for that stark, contrasty noir feel minus the B&W, KUDOS. The last sequence was so horrific and memorable but because I don't believe in spoilers, you'll have to see it to "feel it". I felt it. The fear. The anxiety. The uncertainty. And ultimately... the dread. You will feel it too.
