Why was this green-lit?
8 September 2012
This is one of the worst films I've ever seen. Dialogue is repeated due to lazy writing. 'Funny' moments are always awkward and never funny. Action- packed moments are filled with paper-thin CG. Tommy Lee Jones is utterly under-utilized, his part in the film is essentially a cameo. Emma Thompson's part has the same problem. Josh Brolin delivers a good performance as always, but there's only so much you can do with a poorly- written character. The story is as ridiculous as it is contrived, and while that was one of the great things about MIB (the original), surprising your audience with a story so insane it's simply fun only works once; you can't repeat that practice and expect good results. I'll always be glad I didn't waste money on this in theaters and simply end by saying, 'what a piece of crap.'

How I Met Your Mother (2005–2014)

What? How is this still on the air?
15 May 2012
I had heard from several people that this show was "amazing," "funny," and any number of other wonderful adjectives. So, why had I never heard of it? It has been running since 2005 after all, and this is 7 years later. Well, Netflix supplied the answer with 5 episodes of the most recycled, predictable garbage I have ever seen on television. I didn't laugh a single time, accurately predicting almost every encounter in the first few seconds and staring at the screen in baffled wonderment. How is this show popular?! This show is essentially THE prime example of our American pursuit of laziness. We don't dare watch a show that challenges our thinking or is interesting in any way, we just want to watch the same crap that has been on TV since the first fart joke debuted.

I digress... This show was trashy, boring, insulting to the intelligence of a kindergartner, and poorly executed at that. In short, an epic piece of utter trash that I will avoid at all costs in the future. Others are of course entitled to their opinions, but for those unsure if they'd like to take a chance on it, don't! I would sincerely rather watch an infomercial; it would be funnier.

Puss in Boots (2011)
Occasionally Funny
7 November 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Walking into this film, I knew it would have some innuendo and cheap 'shock' humor, but I hadn't realized just how much it does have. The original Shrek was a fun romp through a hilariously flawed version of Fairy Tale land, but Puss in Boots is rather sad by comparison. While innuendo certainly was present in Shrek, it was subdued and quietly funny, as it is meant to be. In Puss in Boots, however, innuendo is replaced with in-your-face references to sexuality, alcohol, etc that were a turn-off for me. The fairy tale land gone wrong story was replaced with an awkward mix of the harsh real world and completely random fairy-tale elements. This strange, inadequately explored world was confronted by oddly out-of-place talking cats, eggs, and a few characters who seemed hastily and inexplicably thrown into the script. (e.g. little boy blue, wagon-pulling pigs...) These elements combine to make a film that is sometimes more confusing and awkward than funny, with a few genuinely hilarious moments mixed in.
