Life of Crime 1984-2020 (2021)
Maybe the Most Important Movie in a While
This absolutely heart-wrenching look at several people struggling with drug addiction in Newark, New Jersey over a thirty-six year period should be required viewing for everyone, basically. It serves as a great reminder to those of us who are lucky to have not struggled, that the vicious cycle of addiction and recovery is incredibly complex and tenuous. One wrong move, coupled with a broken system and you're right back to square one, or worse.
I remember someone once telling me once that she couldn't understand why some people end up addicted to drugs and/or homeless and why can't they "just not take drugs in the first place". You know, the old "PULL UP YOUR BOOTSTRAPS" attitude and I just hope that films like this can shed some light on the issue.
