The New Adventures of Gilligan: Their Own Image (1974)
Flintstones! Meet The Flintstones!
Remember that episode of Gilligan's Island where Gilligan saves Mr. Howell's life, so Howell adopts Gilligan? This is the animated adaptation of that episode. The difference here is that the island is now populated by domesticated animals that do chores. An elephant that vacuums! An octopus that does dishes! A gorilla chauffeur! There's never an explanation as to how the castaways are joined by these animals - it is what it is! It's hilariously ridiculous! it kind of gets in the way of the story of Gilligan getting beefed up to be man enough for Mary Ann - a misunderstanding by the Skipper. What's missing, too is that wants to please his new dad, Howell, so he abandons his friends and becomes a snob. Even to his new family! It's a fun story, just a little over-complicated by unnecessary extras.
The New Adventures of Gilligan: The Loners (1974)
Best Adventure of Gilligan!
This episode should have been the debut, rather than "Off Limits".
"The Loners" has everything that is a Gilligan episode: after finishing chores, Gilligan decides to kick back and read a comic book. But everywhere he goes, he finds someone else looking for time to himself or herself. Everybody needs "me" time, and the castaways are no exception. In fact, being marooned on a deserted island with six other people can get downright annoying after a while. Which is why each one of the castaways leaves the compound for their own personal space. Eventually, the island is divided up by walls. Walls with no doors. Gilligan is left alone in the compound. There's a wacky sequence where he imitates the rest of the gang, carrying on a conversation by himself with each one of them. As The Professor, he finally comes tot he conclusion that he's all alone. He's built his own wall with no door around the compound. To find a way out, he decides to dig, and then finds something worth telling the others about.
This is one of the few episodes that balances a situation with a way to get off the island. Usually the episodes are about some situation where they all have to learn a lesson about getting along. What's cool is that this situation seems more "realistic" balanced with a chance at rescue! This as listed as the eighth episode of the series, it's ninth on the complete series DVD collection. It's the best episode of the series - so far.
Bedtime Stories (2008)
Best. Sanlder. Movie. Ever.
You Don't Mess With The Zohan? I thought it sucked. I'm sorry, I thought it did. It's only A (one) joke with A (one) punchline. Like, Did you hear the one about the Israeli assassin that wanted to become a hair dresser? Or, How do hairdressers do it? Why, silky smooth.
Half of the movies he makes are either hit or miss. I didn't like Zohan, but I did like Click and Bedtime Stories. I liked the It's A Wonderful Life theme of Click. I kinda liked Splanglish, but it was just an awkward story. Bedtime Stories was just fun from start to finish. Kinda like The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates.
I don't expect deep thoughts or philosophy from Adam Sandler. That's why I still haven't seen Reign Over Me.
Bedtime Stories clicked and fired on all cylinders for me.
I only wished I'd seen more of Monica Gellar, I mean, Courtney Cox. I'd go see a sequel.
