Supervolcano (2005 TV Movie)
9/10
Thank heavens it's just a movie
13 April 2005
Not bad at all for a made-for-television disaster movie. Great not so famous cast with excellent acting. This movie depicts the events of an eruption of a supervolcano beneath Yellowstone Park. For those who don't know the difference between a volcano and a supervolcano - and missed the movie: A supervolcano is basically a huge hole in the ground, 30 to 50 miles wide, with a huge lava chamber under pressure, many many times larger than a typical volcano. No one alive has ever witnessed a supervolcanic eruption. The last one was TOBA in Sumatra about 80,000 years ago, which almost wiped out humans. A supervolcanic eruption would do to the planet what an asteroid would do if it were to strike earth. There's even some who believe all the earthquake activity in the Sumatra area may be the supervolcano there yawning and getting ready to wake up. Hmmm, a sequel movie? This was a great flick, fun to watch. Well made with special effects you might not expect in a TV movie. Way to go Discovery Channel!

Taken (2002)
The worst mini-series ever
2 October 2003
I remember standing in line for hours to go on one of those haunted house rollercoasters. The ones at the carnival that are indoors, so you can't see what the ride is about till the coaster takes you in. I remember thinking the long, long wait in line was worth it. Then I remember the huge dissapointment when I finally go my turn and took the silly ride.Thinking, "I waited for this?" That is what this dumb miniseries is like, absolute dissapointment. Sex starved aliens, who, if you come in contact with them, cause you to have a ruinous life and die a tragic death of one sort or another. And that stupid air force commander, who kills everyone who he thinks has even seen a ufo, from his girlfriend, to some innocent boy scouts, then his wife, his son. And no explanation as to why he even does this. Then the hokey ending. My God, the only miniseries that comes even close to being this bad is "The Stand". If you haven't seen this yet, and you are a Sci-fi buff, you'd enjoy Gilligans Island more.
