Watch Dogs (2014)
An excellent next gen experience.
Simply the greatest modern day open world ever created. The hacking mechanic is fluid (unlike what some people say) and the writing is spot on. Some reviewers have knocked the driving mechanic a bit. I disagree. The driving mechanic is different - sure, but I'd say its more realistic than other games as each car has its own handling and stopping distances. This takes time to get used to, but its really good when you know how to handle each car. Besides this, the streets are much more populated with cars and people than anything I've ever seen before. GTA doesn't come close to anything like this.
Besides driving, IGN particularly described Aiden as an 'empty trench coat'. That's unfair. Ubisoft use nightmare sequences and flashbacks to really fill out his personality and how he feels about the circumstances surrounding the start of the game.
He could have been filled out more - sure - and they could have talked about his past (before he started hacking) a bit more, but they did a really good job with his personality and this helps make sense of some of the gameplay (e.g. why he helps save other people).
The other gameplay mechanics - such as stealth - are interesting and in a way, similar to splinter cell - although this works out well in the context of the open world.
Interestingly, some reviews have really played down Aiden/the player's hacking skill in the game. For example, some people have said that at the start of the game, a friend of Aiden's triggers a blackout. This is wrong. Aiden rings a friend to find out information about the blackout and how to trigger one as he's in a rush to escape from police and the player hacks the system and you trigger the blackout yourself.
The city itself is very large. Its larger and much more denser than Los Santos, giving Chicago a realistic feeling of size. This realism is added by the dynamic events in the city, really good animations and realistic AI. It truly is the most realistic open world ever created.
The supporting cast are also shaping up to be really interesting characters themselves, adding another level to how good the game is.
On the negative side, the PS3 version occasionally gets shaky graphics and the occasional pop in when travelling in cars, although this is unnoticeable unless it is being specifically looked for. I'm sure this will be fixed in future - and there is no problem with this on the next gen consoles. Besides this, the PS3 version has two multiplayer modes missing (because the console couldn't handle it). In addition, the fact that you can't invade and hack people on your friend list (as targets are chosen at random) has proved slightly disappointing. However, with the single player so vast, dense and full of life, these are minor disappointments in comparison and are entirely forgivable. These aren't major drawbacks given how good the game is.
Regardless of the controversy surrounding its release or what others say - watchdogs provides one of the best games available to buy on any console and has something that appeals to gamers from all genres and backgrounds. Would truly recommend this game.
Overall, watchdogs offers a true next gen experience on any console - its unlike anything ever created.
GoldenEye (1995)
Good film with flaws
A good film with a couple of minor flaws. The storyline was good and remotely realistic. The woman who tries to kill people in peculiar ways to say the least really needs to be portrayed better. She could be up there in with bad guy fame along with Jaws, DR NO, and Blofeld. Anyway, to cut it short, the BMW was apparently, according to Q, filled with loads of exciting and imaginative gadgets. BUT NOT A SINGLE ONE WAS USED IN THE FILM. Shocking news and a waste of a BMW. This film should be remade with much improvement to be done. This could be a great film. But things really need changing. Next, the video game. The video game was good. No doubt about it. But seriously, it should have been kept the same. There were loads of flaws and problems. Firstly, HOW THE HECK IN DUBAI THE NEW MONACO. The produces of the game should have been fired on the spot for that. There is nothing more to say about this film with a good storyline and scenes and an extremely disappointing video game to go with it.
Quantum of Solace (2008)
Another good action film again.
I don't understand why people say that this film was rubbish. I mean come on compared to other films like moonraker, this film is Hollywood gold. The explosive car chase film at the start really set the scene although, as far as I can tell it was utterly pointless it is one of the best action sequences i've ever seen. The film sets in with the chase for more bad guys from Casino Royale. Bond's tech has gone through the roof but Q really needs to get off his backside and incorporate a couple of Gatling guns and rocket launchers into that lovely Aston Martin DBS. I must admit that the car didn't look so lovely after the sequence but sometimes, in a movie, things need to be sacrificed. The equally beautiful Alfa Romeyo added a touch of class but it should have took the same amount of a beating as the DBS. Craig's Bond was brilliant and vaguely reminded me of Roger Moore but he is no Sean Connery. Next, the storyline was good and for once the fight scenes were well choreographed and were realistic which is needed in films like this. When I say realistic, I mean that it took a good few kicks and punches to knock out/kill the bad guy. Also Bond took a few cuts and bruises which added to the authenticity. The ending was explosive and exciting to say the least and well was the classic compound in flames which should feature in a few more films today.
Overall this film was a satisfyingly good watch and deserves more credit than it is given.
The Dark Knight (2008)
Wow, What a good film!!!!!
Well, what can I say. This makes Batman Begins seem terrible. Christian Bale's Batman/Bruce Wayne is on top form and better than ever(Especially with the scene involving the jump off the IFS in Hong Kong). I would hugely recommend that you watch this film. I've seen hundreds of films and in my opinion this is the best of them all. Heath Ledger's Joker was fantastic. He brought humour and action to the whole film. I must say that Ledger's Joker has to be better than Nicholson's 1989 portrayal however the jokes were not of the same calibre. Anyway, this film had it all - the action - the jokes. The storyline was great. It showed the joker's rise to power and it had plenty of action to help. Especially with the Party Crash scene, the street scene where the tumbler explodes :( (But there is a surprise at this point), and when Gotham General hospital has some structural re-modifications ( Gets blown up). The ending lacked a bit of fight from both batman and the joker and both should have suffered a few more cuts and bruises. Anyway the whole film was brilliant and a must see for all movie lovers. Absolutely brilliant film that balances -suspense- action - laughter and adventure. Absolutely brilliant, just like the cast and the director. What more can I say?
Executive Decision (1996)
Great film with minor problems!!!!
This film was amazing! All of the actors were brilliant and Kurt Russell should definitely stick to being a buisinessman who knows how to shoot. Also, David Suchet - seeing Hercules Poirot as a bad guy was undeniably a work of a genius. The storyline was great and realistic but now i'll get to the flaws.
For starters Steven Seagal died during the epic mid-air transfer. :( That was their first mistake. It should never have happened. Next, with the amount of times Halle Berry had run-ins with Suchet she should have been shot through the head! Next, the simple fact that the terrorists took ages to check the service hatch was wrong. They should have checked straight away. And last but not least was the fiasco where the master terrorist got released from prison and put on a jet at the end. I don't object to that but when the pentagon found out that the plane had bee secured they should have immediately brought the plane back or shot it down. Anything to stop the terrorist from escaping. Anywy don't let the bad deter you from watching this film. Despite the flaws it was still a satisfyingly good watch. P.S. I know there are spoilers but they were necessary.
