Quite how the makers managed to get away with not crediting this show as a remake of the hit uk show Happy Valley is the biiggest mystery of this rather dull and univolving limited series. Winslet is very good in it but I never really felt she disappeared into the role, moreso a lunge for an Emmy to go with the Oscar on the mantlepiece. The show hits all the same beats as its uncredited uk counterpart but without any of the real grit and dark humour that Happy Valley gave us. It no doubt plays better to a U. S audience unaware of HV but I cant imagine anyone who saw the 2014 uk show first not twigging this isva rather shameless and inferior rip off in pretty much every department.
