Bhavesh Joshi Superhero (2018)
The superhero within everyone of us.
Corruption is pretty evident in the country, there is not hiding that, but how many times you felt to do something about it. When was the last time you wanted to stop someone breaking the traffic lights, burning of garbage on the streets or even tree cutting? These are some instances which I'm sure most of us have witnessed by now. Deep down we know that this isn't right, yet we fail to do something about it.
Bhavesh Joshi Superhero, directed by Vikramaditya Motwane is a dark, intense vigilante film, which is unlike the rest of the superhero films the country has seen. Starting out as a youtube channel called "Insaaf TV", our two heroes Siku and Bhavesh, set out to right the wrong. Inspired by the 2011 Anti-Corruption Movement, the duo set out to name and shame those who break the law, be it urinating on the walls or bunking school, Insaafers will find you. The trouble starts brewing when one of the friends uncovers a scandal involving the water mafia and gets killed, which leads to Siku donning the mask and becoming Bhavesh Joshi.
The film like our hero is flawed, too much time is spent on establishing the plot which makes the pacing of the film an issue in the first half. The editing feels pretty abrupt at times, which hampers the flow. However, there are a lot of positives too.
Harshvardhan Kapoor is decent as Siku, there are some scenes where he feels out of his zone, particularly in the emotional ones but he is a hero we can root for. Priyanshu Painyuli, is a true find as Bhavesh, he steals every scene he is in and I hope to see him in more films. The background score by Amit Trivedi is thumping and suits the mood of the film. There are some excellent visuals in the film, particularly during the bike chase sequence, which is very thrilling.
At 155 minutes, Bhavesh Joshi feels stretched at times. Had it been crisper and taut, it would have been a terrific film. Still, it is a sincere film which will make you question your actions in your day to day lives, and create the urge of doing something about the system in place. What works for Bhavesh Joshi is that he is a very relatable character, you can see a million of Indians in him. He is what everyone wanted to be at some points in our lives.
"Democracy mein aukaat sabki hoti hai, bas humein ladna nahi chhodna chaiye"
I felt inspired by the film, I hope you will be too.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
It's good , not great
Batman v Superman isn't a spectacular film, it has issues like the editing seems amateur at times, the trailers were transparent enough to reveal the film's final act so that didn't help either, Jesse Eisenberg overacts in the last hour of the film like he's on cocaine. But that's about it. The film doesn't deserve the bashing it's getting from the critics. Dawn of Justice is way better than at least 70% of MCU films (it's better than AOU). This film is definitely more darker than the previous films but it's also more emotionally satisfying. Ben Affleck owns the character, the Batman bits in the film stand out . Wonder Woman is fantastic as well . How I wish stand-alone films of these characters came before Dawn Of Justice. They have tried to stuff so much and the film so fast paced it's difficult for the average viewer to comprehend. Eagerly awaiting the 3 hour director's cut of the film. It's just sad the film is getting so much hate. It's really good film , go watch it and see two iconic characters collide even though the reason they collide ain't justified much.
Spectre (2015)
A very underwhelming Bond outing.
*SPOILERS* Spectre has one of the best opening sequences in Bond history. I had initial doubts over the Sam Smith song but its picturization is breathtaking and the song doesn't look out of place . These are the only positive things in this 2hr 25 mins awfully long film. Nothing new is done, the film is clichéd and you can predict what's going to happen every time. Christopher Waltz character has barely no screen time to make his presence felt as a 'Villain'. What happens to Monica Bellucci only Sam Mendes knows that. It tries to be a Jason Bourne film at best as it forgets It's in fact a James Bond film. It's extremely excruciating the plot unfold as it barely exists. It's a very shabby Bond film. People say Quantum of Solace was the worst of the Craig era, but Spectre manages to out do it in the means of terrible writing and in the run time slot also.In the film's climax ,Bond becomes reluctant to kill a character and looks at Lea Seydoux while saying "I have better things to do". I agree Mr.Bond we all have better things to do than to watch this catastrophic mess.
