Breza (1967)

Silence
14 September 2006
"Breza" is a poetic slow and mostly silent movie about life of the people living in the village in Croatia. The main theme is love or lack of love between Janica, girl of unusual beauty, and Marko, man with mustaches who has already broken many of women's hearts. And Janica's heart is yet to be broken. How could she as the only Breza in the wood survive this lack of love and the cruel inhabitants of the village. the main point is how something so special and so unique can be destroyed by society and misunderstanding. Film is great pictured, photography is perfect, every shot is a small master-piece. The film is pictured in the style of naive painters and it has that kind of atmosphere.

The End
5 April 2006
Warning: Spoilers
OK, I can't say it's the masterpiece, but surely one of the OK movies that were released in the post-Yugoslavian era. the plot: syphilis appears in the small Yugoslavian army unit on the border with Albania and a soldier-doctor is forced to visit lieutenant's wife to send her his regards, but he falls in love with her... but the main problem in this film is bad adaptation from novel of Ante Tomic to scenario... so we see a lot of lack of motivation and when the comedy is turned into tragedy we can't understand why. it had potential to be a very very good movie, but still it's very good directed. i liked using the symbols of the sea and the lake. main actor is excellent. and the end. the bloody end of one country... that is shown in a very poetic and peaceful way. the way that we'd like it happened in reality.

one of the bunch

it's unexplicable where the serbian cinematography is going. we make or stupid black-humor comedies or bad social movies. mali svet is one that belongs to the first category. the movie hasn't no background, no construction that could hold him, the characters are tied by destiny which is very suspicious, there are many unlogical actions...it's just sad
