Garden Party Massacre (2017)
Hilarious spoof of horror films!
Kooky characters, snappy dialogue and over the top craziness will have you laughing out loud over and over. Imagine the cast of a sitcom suddenly trapped in a horror film and you get the idea. Pop culture riffs and horror movie tropes are splattered all over the place. In fact, there are tons more laughs than blood which, as a comedy first and foremost, works just fine. And even the massacre, when it finally comes, is not exactly what you'd expect.
A really fun film I could watch over and over.
Fang (2018)
Fun indie horror flick!
Part homage, part its own crazy, tongue-in-cheek thing, "Fang" provides plenty of surprises, unexpected humor and tons of blood! Quirky, offbeat and lots of popcorn-munching fun!
Deadly Revisions (2013)
Great slow burn with lots of twists and surprises!
Saw this at a film festival and it was the best thing I saw, hands down!
Meticulously sets up what appears to be a simple story of a horror film writer with amnesia whose nightmares, despite the help of a beautiful hypnotherapist, become more and more disturbing. The nightmares reveal memories of a dark past. But are they real? Some of them include characters from his own films! So the fun is trying to figure out what's going on along with the writer.
Bill Oberst, Jr. as the writer is fantastic at walking the line between seeming to be a terrorized, wounded man and a possible psychopath. He's the perfect unreliable narrator, since we see things through his eyes. Can we trust them? As the film moves into its final third, you'll begin to wonder if you can trust yourself!
I highly recommend this psychological thriller. It's an extremely rewarding slow descent into a very creepy and thrilling place.
