Lightyear (2022)
3/10
Interstellar for Babies
17 June 2022
Lightyear just didn't feel like Disney at all. After the very first fight scene, I thought, "Okay. This is very cliche but I know it's going to get better," but everything after that just felt like a recycled scene from a plethora of movies, both Disney and non-Disney. We have some Astroboy, some Wreck it Ralph, we have some Interstellar. We can all agree the best part of this movie was socks, but we can also all agree he was only included in this movie to sell merchandise. This movie was god awful. My family took me out and from the trailer, I wasn't too enthusiastic about it, but as we were walking into the theatre, I realized, "Hey, wait a minute. I grew up watching Star Command, maybe they'll include some of my favorite characters from the show." I got excited. Zurg appeared, but his twist was eye-roll worthy. Green Aliens? XR? Booster? No. No. No. The biggest problem with this movie is that it doesn't seem to know who it's target audience is. There's no alluding to the original Buzz Lightyear of Star Command my generation grew up watching. It was very dark to appeal to kids. Zurg didn't even have a cape. What a disappointment. 3 points for the animation.

One of those shows...
21 July 2021
I know this review will probably get buried but i have to put it out there and further increase the overall rating of this show. I used to watch this show with my Grandpa right before the series finale in 2013. Each episode kept us at the edge of our seat and was exciting to watch. It was engaging even when watching out of sequence and not knowing what happened in the previous episode. I just finished the entire series on Netflix and it was even better watching the episodes in order. Like many other people have said, I also wish I could watch it over again for the first time. It is absolutely brilliant how the creators of the show moved us to root for the villain. I knew how it was going to end, but I didn't expect how well it would be done. Finishing this show felt like finishing a classic. I can't help but sense it's alluding to some ancient story or anecdote (like a lot of good movies do), but I can't pinpoint what. I guess what I'm trying to say is that this show is bound to transcend generations and will be enjoyed again and again in the future. There is not a single note I would give to the actors, the set design, the lighting. I wouldn't swap out a single major or minor actor for another one. This show is as close to perfection as it can get.

I'm Here Too (2017)

Parents, Grandparents, Guardians, please monitor what your children are watching
17 June 2021
I first saw this "film" on Youtube a little over a year ago. I've thought about it a lot over the past year. It makes me very concerned for little girls who watch this and think, "the only way I can get the attention I need is to kill myself." There wasn't much to this "film" besides the romanticization of a girl killing herself causing her family turmoil. There is no depth provocation of thought sewed into this movie. It is only a cash grab disguised as some sick advocasy. Sure, the acting was good but as the other reviewer said, it did feel like I was watching real people. I'm not sure who should watch this film. I wish it would have shown why life is worth living at the end instead of implying that the only way a person will have love shown to them is when they're gone for good. "

Finally on Netflix

I'm only 23 but this was my favorite movie as a teenager. When I was 14 I was obsessed with it. This is one of those movies that just completely captures the magic of our youth in a bottle. I'm watching it now on Netflix and it makes my heart ache a little bit.

I didn't know you could review a youtube series

I was obsessed with this a few years ago. The only thing Buzzfeed has produced that is a lot of fun to watch. The duo couldn't be more perfect. The way Ryan relays information about the case just completely draws you in and Shane is the perfect comic relief.

Formulaic yet enjoyable
21 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
My sister took us out to see a movie and I went in without knowing a single thing about what we were seeing. When I heard it was Raya and something about a dragon I thought I would have to miserably sit through some boring kids animation. Although it started off painfully cliche, I walked out of the theatre pleasantly surprised. I haven't been able to sit through an entire movie-let alone kids animation-for a while. As one user said about it being formulaic-perhaps-however, I still felt I was watched something fresh and new. It made me laugh and cry. I felt a whole range of emotions watching it. I felt the sense of community among the passengers on the boat who all slowly began to trust eachother. After the opening, there wasnt a single dull moment. I feel the creators of this movie were really smart in how they presented this movie and the characters. I cringe at the word diversity, but this was really well done on that end. I loved their use of geography and how the map looked like a dragon instead of a distinct part of Asia so no one can claim innacuracies. None of the characters looked particularly chinese either. Everyone looked like a mixture of sorts. Raya had redeeming qualities and made you root for her despite being the cause of the main conflict. I especially lived Sisu. I immediately recognized her voice as Awkafina from Crazy Rich Asians. I couldn't see anyone else better fitting the role. The whole time I was thinking to myself how much I loved the human version of Sisu's hair. Which brings me to the last part of this review-the animation quality is to the moon. I never really liked cgi but this made me love it a lot. Overall, I would have given it a ten if it wasn't for the cringey opening. Even if it was needed for the rest of the story, it almost made me want to leave.

Overhyped

I love Taika Watiti and the main characters were cute, but this movie was trying too hard to be bold.

Joker (I) (2019)
8/10
Joaquin Phoenix is gripping
31 March 2021
I only review this 8 out of 10 because while the movie itself is fantastic and "well put together", it's far too depressing to watch again. Also, the fact that it was nothing more than a "passion project", so to speak, for the director and people involved and had nothing to do with the actual DC universe, this movie offered nothing more than a character study. Anyway, I digress. Joaquin Phoenix may just be the last of his kind. I don't see anyone in the upcoming generations who can pull anything like this off. He is completely gripping as the joker. You can almost feel his pain and witness his deep-rooted madness. The particular scene where he gets on Murray's show just shows so many fluctuations of emotions and is one of the most compelling scenes I have seen in a long time in recent movies.
