Jayhawkers (2014)
Excellent
I wish there were more movies like this. I always find it interesting when they depict actual events. It is a movie you can watch more than once and you get something out of it each time. It is in black & white which is effective in the placement of the movie in the period. It is a reminder of a day gone by if you are older and educational if you are younger. If you are a lover of jazz you will also enjoy some of the music. I attended the screening at the Lied Center and they had a Q & A with a gentleman who attended KU at that time. He said the film is very accurate. This film needs wider distribution. If it happens to show in your area please take the time to see it. As would be expected all Jayhawk fans throughout the country should try to see this production.
Last Ounce of Courage (2012)
Thankful we live in a country where we can express our views
Puts forth values our country was founded on but appear to be quickly abandoning. It is exaggerated for effect yet that is OK. We need to consider the sacrifices of many which have been made for our freedoms. The movie is not for those who choose no matter what not to think about such things or consider all sides. We are very fortunate to live in this country despite flaws but it is so easy to take things for granted so sometimes people don't stand up for what they believe in all of the time. Everyone on all sides should respectfully have that right in this country without ridicule. I was not in attendance (watched on DVD) but told in the theater in our town those in attendance stood and clapped at points so it resonates with some whether we all agree or not.
AIR: The Musical (2010)
Excellent
An original musical score with an excellent plot. If you enjoy independent film and want to be entertained this is a selection you must make. You actually need to watch it a couple of times to catch all of the subtle humor embedded in the film as well. These days Glee seems to have reached out to many. If you like music integrated into a story this is a film for you. With all of the lack of originality in major motion pictures it is refreshing to see creativity in an independent setting. If you are from the Midwest and familiar with Kansas City you should also enjoy trying to identify some of the films locations in KC, Lawrence and Topeka to name a few! If you enjoy a variety of music styles this would appeal to you as well. Possibly you will want to check out Steve Unruh's music after watching this selection.
