Intensity (1997)
Molly Parker Shines thru in this thriller!
This show is one of the few TV Mini-Series that I have yet to grow tired of watching (since I first saw it aired on Fox in 1997). It is beyond the typical slash & dash, "gore fest", but instead it centers on the psychological redemption of an abused innocent who finally receives her opportunity to fight back years later. Molly Parker was selected & courted for this role after her critically acclaimed role in "Kissed". It is her portrayal of the character Chyna Sheppard that makes this movie above the other "TV Movie of the Week". She is absolutely riveting in her performance, & whenever I am having a bad or perhaps sad day/week...I just replay this movie & it reminds me that "you are not alone". If you want a psychological thriller on the level of Silence of the Lambs, this is one for you. It very closely follows the Dean R. Koontz novel, with a slight twist at the end that helps keep it fresh for even those like myself who had read the book before seeing the mini-series (as there was a twist with the screen version of Silence of the Lambs that helped it remain "fresh" as the end neared). This TV mini-series has never been released on home video, but it is sometimes replayed on "The Mystery Channel" if your cable network carries it. Tune in. You will never be disappointed or alone.
Tru Calling (2003)
Eliza-Faith is still Alive
I just caught the last 45 minutes of the Valentine Episode for this "new" series with Eliza Dushku. I knew Eliza was signed on to do a new series with Fox, but I did not know it had already began in October 2003. I am just catching it right before the new season with Jason Priestly begins in March 2004. Now I have to go back & try to catch all of the episodes I have missed. I have always admired Eliza, not just because she is an attractive actress. She has this "presence" that comes through as so "real". Maybe it is the inflection in her speach...I am really not sure. I was really unhappy when I knew that the Buffy series was finally ending, and one of the "thoughts" to continue the show...do a spin-off...featuring Eliza was not possible with her new contract with Fox. They have chosen a great vehicle series to showcase her in, but I hope the time slot chosen by Fox does not doom the series before it has a chance to develop a fan base. For Me..it was great to see Eliza again...as I had not seen her since the critic slammed movie, Wrong Turn. It was like Faith (her character on the Buffy series) was back again. The world is a much nicer place with Faith in it, even if it is just imaginary. Thank-you Fox for this "replacement" to the much-missed Faith character from Buffy.
