Le peuple migrateur (2001)
It could not be better!
Winged migration is without a doubt the best, most breath-taking, and most powerful film I have ever seen. I'm usually not interested in watching documentaries, especially about birds, and animals; however, the journey that Perrin and his crew took me on was nothing short of spectacular. Being able to fly with the birds, endure pain and loss, and enjoy happiness, changed my vision towards the living beings and the universe. I certainly value them more than I did ever before, which for me is probably the most valuable achievement a film could ever have.
Lets put aside humans. We're not the only living organism in this world, and certainly not the most important one. So lets not forget about the nature, without which life is not possible.
Airborne (1998)
Laughable!
This film suffers horrendously from its direction "Julian Grant" , and its incompetent lead, Steve Guttenberg, who's putting a solid effort to win a Bruce Willis look-alike contest! The writing is reckless Hollywood action thriller; Sean Bean --whose one of my favorites-- David Fraser, and Kim Coates give a decent performance. The film is definitely below average. 3 out of 10! I wonder what Hollywood studios thought, actually giving the go ahead, to weak director such as Grant. And I'd say to Sean Bean "what were you thinking even considering participating in a film like this, after such great films like GoldenEye, Ronin, and Patriot Games!
House of Sand and Fog (2003)
Who is to be blamed?
Long after "not without my daughter" we're seeing a film concentrating on Iranian families. This one shows a closer revelation to the condition of Persians, unlike their portrayal as primitive villagers and farmers.
What struck me the most watching this movie was the amazing view, and perspective of Col. Behrani towards America. He and his family are awfully polite and well-mannered, immigrants to, and current citizens of United States. Behrani is the father of a used to be wealthy family, responsible, hardworking, loving but determined and decisive. On the other hand we have Kathy Nikolo and Dep. Sheriff, Lester, whose lack of responsibility and precision, are allegorical to what society today is enduring from. Behrani says it best that Americans are given an amazing gift but are not aware of it enough, that they should arm themselves with patience and thoughtfulness for it is a great gift: Freedom!
