Hot Pursuit (2015)

Predictable but enjoyable
8 September 2021
If you watched this movie expecting it to be an Oscar contender, then you are going to be massively disappointed! I knew from the trailers that this movie was going to be a simple, silly comedy which is good for some laughs, and that's exactly what it is.

Even though the plot was extremely predictable, as were many of the gags and the plot twists, I enjoyed the chemistry between Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara.

If you have nothing better to watch and are looking for some laughs, check it out.

An all-round terrible movie
3 April 2018
While the basic premise is an interesting one, it was handled and executed in the worst way possible, resulting in one incredibly bad movie.

The movie is full of hackneyed cliches, cringe-worthy dialogue, and over-the-top hamming by pretty much everyone. It's like the actors and the director are trying to force the audience to feel something, anything. The only thing I felt was annoyance.

Perhaps the worst aspect of the film is when the main plot is put on hold to dedicate a few minutes to the comedians Johnny Lever and Raju Shreshta. Their comedy is so childish and ridiculous that even my 5 year old kid got bored.

Avoid this at all cost, unless you like to torture yourself.

A cheap, vulgar and just plain terrible movie
12 November 2017
I rarely give any non-Adam Sandler movie a 1/10. But this one deserves it.

If I were to summarize the movie in one sentence then it's just a lot b**b shots and no story. And it also has that Disney chick with the big head.

Seems like the filmmakers only intention was to "titillate" the audience and nothing more.

Henna (1991)

A great movie with an important message
6 October 2017
I watched "Henna" when it first came out in 1991 and immediately fell in love with it. Even today, after all these years, it is still a very enjoyable movie, much better than the romance movies that Bollywood is churning out these days.

The first thing that strikes any person watching the movie is the breath-takingly beautiful scenery. The movie is shot in some of the most visually stunning locations on this planet. It is like watching a Monet painting come to life.

The second strongest aspect of this movie is the music. The songs are incredibly melodious and still popular.

The performance by all the actors is pretty good. Saeed Jaffrey stands out with his portrayal of Henna's father. Zeba herself does a very good job of portraying the naive innocent and sweet Pakistani girl. Raza Murad is at his evil best.

The movie also urges viewers to examine the state of the world and themselves. Can a few lines drawn on a map really create such hatred and animosity among human beings? Sadly, the answer is yes.

Used to be good, not anymore
2 October 2017
I remember vividly when the first season of the show started. It was fantastic. The questions came from a wide variety of genre and thus really tested a contestant's overall knowledge.

The host, Amitabh, was very charming and used to engage in light-hearted conversation with the contestants, most of whom were big fans of his. The contestants would request him to recite a dialogue from his movies or narrate their experience of watching his movies. They would also joke about how they would use their prize money, with some planning to produce their own movies while others intending to buy a house next to Amitabh's.

However, over the years all these great aspects of the show have been slowly disappearing and the show becoming increasingly jingoistic. The current season can hardly be called a game show. It is more of a socio-political forum. The majority of the questions are either about Indian politics or Indian sports.

The contestants and Amitabh talk about nothing but their country and how the prize money is going to be used for the greater good. Unless you are a hardcore Indian nationalist, don't bother watching this show.

Has gone from good to absolutely terrible
15 May 2017
When KWK started, it replaced Simi Garewal's talk show "Rendezvous with Simi". While that show was phenomenal, Johar did a good job of putting his own twist on the show with a little bit of humor and some interesting segments.

However, the most recent season is just filth. His guests are mostly newcomers, millennials or flop actors/actresses. And all he is interested in is their sex lives. What do they do for sex? Are they virgins? How many times have they had sex? Who have they slept with? etc etc. It is no longer fit for the whole family to watch. It has become the "Two and a Half Men" of talk show - vulgar and unfunny.
