NTSC Captioning Out of Sync
16 August 2023
Fix the out of sync captioning. The captions are approximately 30 seconds ahead on multiple devices - AppleTV, Roku and FireTV. The captions are out of sync in both MGM Plus and Amazon Prime apps. Only checked English, Spanish, French and German, but in all 4 of those languages the captions are out of sync on all three devices and in both applications. Can only speak for NTSC.

Watchable...weak spots in the screenwriting.
7 May 2023
I said "screenwriting" because I have not read Reid's original words, but there's some genuine genuine development for some of the supporting characters, but still somewhat lacking. The male characters, especially the brothers, in the final episodes lose any of their briefly revealed depth and become archetypes that don't mesh with earlier episodes. And its also at this point, that the screenwriting lost the challenge, giving up on wholistic human portrayals and becomes a focused women's studies seminar; kind of preachy and tiresome.

"I don't let you see all of me..."

Most thinking men of substance, something Billy was supposed to be, as far back in time as one can imagine, are/were, not so shallow as to insult their true love with such a line.

NBC's Cancellation Habits Are Predictable
1 August 2021
Very good show that actually benefited from quality writing and good acting. But unfortunately like all decent NBC shows of the past 10 years, it was guaranteed to be abruptly cancelled from the beginning. This was actually only one of three NBC shows that have even bothered to record so binge watching the seasons made it that much more enjoyable and easy to just cut ties when NBC dumped it because of their inability to commit is now inherent to their programming dept.

Really, a bit of a farcical take on human beings incapable of providing for themselves.

Quality Film and Believable Screenplay
26 November 2020
Why? Because it's a true piece of many lives of men like my father. I had a front row seat to this story in almost it's exact form and matter at almost the same exact time, add one year. So don't be afraid of what you may not understand, don't deny something or attempt to invalidate it with statements that demonstrate a willful ignorance or denigrating righteousness - this only makes you insignificant within the scope of humanity. Instead look into yourself with a desire and hope that you are capable of discovering that you possess compassion and understanding for others. This movie is NOT about religion or politics, it's about real people, all of them, that existed within a place and time.

Unfortunately, Rebecca Eaton, Francis Hopkinson & Catherine Oldfield are dim witted, idiots that should never be allowed to flaunt their money for PBS again!!! I wouldn't let them even be an administrative assistants for the local chapter of the DAR or secretary for the local Junior League.

Would be very good...
26 September 2020
...with it punk symmetry, wonderful art direction, great photography, with unique characters, except one, the over the top soundtrack that becomes a character, not an enhancement, but an interrupting distractor that ruins so much of the show...don't know if this is another case of Cave's ego that pushed for this or just the editors trying to be pop artists, popism is no more...either way the Master Elfman is the master because he's a real master of art of soundtracks...ever heard the saying hit them over the head with subtlety...well, Peaky Blinders is not that, the soundtrack feels like being constantly hit in the head with a Samoan war club, it is another something that could've been very good...

SLOOOOOOW Scenes & Sequencing with Too Much Silence
15 February 2020
Quirky it may be. Acting is fine, regardless of the obvious limited script work being put in. But this is often the result of not much real meat being given to the cast. And this adapted screenplay is reflective of this, as overall it is lacking all but the occasional witty humor Ross' original work is known for. Give me quality compressed adaptations of Leonard or McCarthy any day over this pointless drawn out for TV mini-series approach.

Kill Off the Lead - PLEASE!!
6 November 2019
The writing for the character played by Omar Metwally is deplorable. The show has potential but anytime the viewer is returned to a sequence with Metwally's character the writing is so bad and unbelievable that one is shocked that these sequences are even part of the same show - abrupt discontinuity like this is a result of poor character concept. This character going around demanding answers, showing no discretion or honest investigative prowess makes the character purposeless - get rid of him.

Some Unique CGI, Ridiculous Formulaic Screenplay
28 May 2019
Beautiful CGI most of the time with a few weak edits early on that sort ruin one's willing suspension of disbelief. And the screenplay breaks the movie into two simple stories that leave the viewer disengaged. The weakest film in the Marvel Mega Serial.

Wonderful Adaptation of a Great Book
27 January 2019
As an avid reader, including most all of Capra's work, this is an excellent adaptation of The Turning Point. If you appreciate academic theory and it's realistic application to the world, then take a walk with these three intelligent characters as they do this very thing. Pay attention to the Art Direction and camera framing of the scenes. This film is for people who easily engage with intellectual discussion of applied theoretical observation of the universe and our world. Simply put, this is a wonderful film, a powerful film based on the work of one of the greatest writers ever!

The writers don't even know what happened yet...
25 January 2019
A typical situation where the network executives agreed to a concept but an incomplete story. Everyone keeps hoping that all will be revealed before the show is possibly cancelled. Unfortunately, it's highly improbable that the writers have even figured out themselves what happened because they don't know yet. There's no way the complete story for this series was ever fully developed before being pitched or since beginning it's broadcast. The subplots and backstory reveal very little in the way of substance and are more like concept by limited adaptation. Nothing up to the beginning of the second half of this first season leaves the viewer with irrepressible desire to tune in for the next episode. Oh well...

Too bad remakes such as this don't just create a completely new show with a different name with vastly different, unique BUT recognizable characters, paying homage to the original. Anyway, definitely not even close to the original.

WTF, Canned Laughter Track in 2016
14 January 2019
This show must've been created for younger handicapped generations who lack social skills. That's the only conclusion any normal person can logically make with the abnormal use of a canned laughter track during drama.

Not Bad, Could Evolve Into So Much More
12 January 2019
Some episodes from the first season, teetered on brilliance with some quality humor and truly unique script writing for a quasi-Sci-fi television series. I hope this show doesn't become another outlet for McFarlane to see how far he can push industry standards with his ludicrous, childish, outrageous, exaggerated sense of self; that really gets old fast when he does this.

Another Half Developed Story
7 November 2018
Meh. Another typical show where the creators clearly woke up with an idea for half of their story, successfully pitched it, and will now make it up as they go along. These types of shows are all very similar in that they are very slow to develop due to the lack of a thoroughly flushed out storyline. Because of this, the show lacks necessary intrigue and the occasional efforts to drop in an mysterious omnidirectional subplot leaves the viewer disinterested.

Reboot Brings Another Arbitrarily Replaced Cast Member
29 September 2018
Molly Ephraim was probably the most talented cast member, in terms of comedic technique, her skills seemed effortless and she easily accounted for 75% of this shows watchability. Now her character, Mandy, has been recast with this shows latest reboot. Epic fail. No show is worth saving when losing this kind of talent.

The Gold Standard. To this day, hard copy's of Cannell's scripts for this show are one of the most sought after items by knowledgeable screenwriting students.
