Chainsaw Man: Arrival in Tokyo (2022)
Season 1, Episode 2

Fun episode with Aki and Power finally!
18 October 2022
So I'm happy to say that it looks like we're getting unique ending animations with each new song after all!

That aside, this is the episode where a lot of people are gonna look sideways at Denji's character development and either find it funny or have a problem with it. Soon enough everyone is gonna realize how deep that kind of characterization can get and see a new type of shonen hero emerge from the degeneracy. Can't wait for all the controversy, lol.

Aki is a jerk at first but Denji doesn't take jerkiness lying down, and it's funny in a bad ass kinda way. But the biggest plus is Power!!! Power is just lovable crazy and her upcoming arc is all hype. Episode felt very short but it still looks just as beautiful as the first episode. Next episode please!

Well, they knew what they were writing
13 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
So from the beginning, they knew what kind of reaction this show would get, as the finalie makes it clear the show was intentionally scripted to bait "haters" and "trolls". For its intended purpose, it certainly fits the bill. Therefore the score is pretty justified. Can't deny that despite the idea, it was competently constructed, and trying to end the show with a big 4th wall break instead of the usual action fanfare was... different. Didn't lend itself very well to any ideas the show had in the first place but they tried.

It goes without saying that the show props itself in a way that insists on wanting more praise than ot deserves while telling us just to love it for what it is, but I'm not a fan of being told episode after episode who I am if I don't. It knew I wouldn't though so who cares? That's what this show wanted.

In the end, it did its job. It entertained. And now I can move on to a show or a movie that actually appriciates its entire audience, not just the demographic it wanted.

Chainsaw Man (2022)
10/10
Solid first episode
11 October 2022
The pros heavily outbalance the cons in this show so far. Sound design is immaculate, from the chainsaw noise to Pochita's woof. Denji's voice actor is top notch, and Makima's is spot on. Mappa's CGI is still nowhere near Ufotables flawless blend of 2D and 3D, and the intro to Dennis' Chainsaw devil was a little slower than imagined, but well animated nonetheless, as the fine detail in the CGI work is better than Mappa has ever done before. The opening in gorgeous, but the song isn't quite the heavy metal banger fans were undoubtedly expecting, let alone a song with casual replay value. With the unique ending song announcement I was anticipating a unique closing animation as well but it was just scrolling text, so that was a bit dissapointing too. But the overall animation was gorgeous, as well as the pacing and direction being top notch, so I'm expecting a lot from the rest of the season!

Cleverness Dialed Backwards
18 August 2022
Viewing the first episode, the narrative structure is coherent and well paced for the most part. If it wasn't completely centered around theatrical mysoginy--which to my understanding is just as off-putting and damaging to its male audience as a false rape accusation--it would genuinely be one of marvels best Disney+ series since Wandavision. It doesn't help that we can expect it from the main character for the next eight episodes due to her personality being written as a generic man-hater like it's okay to paint an entire gender with such a broad stroke. I'm personally going to hope this show gears itself towards a "not all men" character development because in a world of superhumans where this show takes place, with everything the MCU has developed in its own massive setting, man-hating is less justified than ever seeing as there are literal cosmic threats the populace should be far more concerned with. It sounds very much like the review bombing came from a real place.

All that being said, the CGI did improve and Tatiana Maslany is a riveting performer who can knock literally any role out of the park, even when it's written so unlikeably.

And I really wanna say this... they better not point the misogyny gun at Charlie Cox. Or this show will die faster and harder than Game of Thrones post-finalie.

Primal: The Primal Theory (2022)
Season 2, Episode 5

Manage your expectations better, people
12 August 2022
This episode was a completely different story with thematic ties to the setting, offering the viewer an idea of Genndy's future aspirations for the show to transition into an anthology series of one offs, just like he had stated in his interviews. Is the placement of the episode enough to dismiss the high level of art and opportune potential for Primal as a brand that was infused into this episode? For me, personally, not at all. And those who intend to rate it based solely on that are going to look and feel very silly about doing so if it turns out that it ties into another episode later on this season.

Dr. Stone: Special: Ryusui (2022)
Season Unknown, Episode Unknown
10/10
Ryusui is going to be everyone's new favorite
11 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was fantastic. The characters are so fun, and their personalities alone contribute to the plot progression in so many unique ways! Ryusui alone is the most bombastic and exciting character in the series, and they easily do him justice in the anime! The most fun part about him is how he plays off of Gen and Senku so well that it helps remind you of the genius of their characters as well. They're basically the new chaotic trio of characters that carry the show!

To boot, this show is known by now for clean, yet not necessarily the most fluid animation. Yet somehow the climax of the episode was PHENOMENALLY animated without even needing to be fluid! That cloud was scary looking, but really incredible!

All in all, this was the best anime special I've seen in a while.

Spy x Family: The Great Dodgeball Plan (2022)
Season 1, Episode 10

Completely underrated episode
14 June 2022
Just like episode 5, this episode is waaaaay underrated. Fans have been getting spoiled every episode with quality animation and scripting, and just like episode five, Wit and Cloverworks expanded upon the source material with quality development, glossed it over with some of their best animation, and executed every humorous and tension filled note near flawlessly. How is this not the fifth 9 star episode so far??

Okay this one made me mad
31 May 2022
Was that really where it had to end?! And that's a wild spot to end on too. Definitely a build up episode to what looks like a two parter. Not much Anya, so the lower ratings are pretty obvious. But Yor's brother is hilarious, can't wait to see how this raises the stakes.

Easily the best episode so far
15 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
We're finally inside Eden college and it only goes up from here. Yor dominance, Anya's meme worthy faces, Loid's struggle to keep faith, and one extreemly satisfying knuckle sandwich that would make Saitama proud.

Moon Knight (2022)
10/10
All the bad reviews literally admit they don't know Moon Knight
1 April 2022
Don't listen to them, they're already nasty to their own "superhero fatigue." They couldn't register how exciting the scene where Steven is fading in and out of consciousness during a car chase was because literally anything with adrenaline is "cookie cutter Marvel action." Oscar Isaac was superb in his role, and Ethen Hawks villain was surprisingly interesting, even if the 'false prophet' role has been done before.

Slow start, but it worked because the buildup just before the breakdown was satisfying as hell. Don't sleep on this one, ESPECIALLY if you don't know who Moon Knight is.
