Sanditon (2019)
Not Jane Austenesque, but still entertaining
I agree with many other posts, that this strays from what we've all grown to love and expect from a Jane Austen novel. The language is wrong, the mannerisms of the characters are sometimes vulgar beyond what Miss Austen would have written. The list continues.
Nonetheless I find the production entertaining.
Even so, I was angered by the off screen death of a major character from the first series. I would have rather seen a replacement actor, if necessary, later in the story.
Murphy Brown (1988)
A 20 year hiatus has not dulled the wit
I missed this series, and was not disappointed for a second with this first new episode. I couln't breathe, from laughing so hard. We needed this show to start up again, and here she is.
I'm grateful for all the cast members who rejoined the show. Everyone looks great, and their timing has not lost its spark.
I'm a fan for life.
Magnum P.I. (2018)
Not a great start, but many great shows start rough
I'm trying to view this as a new show, rather than a reboot of a revered series. I have to, because I really dislike the relationship between Magnum and Higgins. It appears the writers have compromised Higgins character, and so soon in the series. There's a feeling that Higgins is more Magnum's partner, than a thorn in his side. Their relationship in the first episode looks more like foreplay, and in reading other reviews, I'm not the only one to see it that way.
One of the most difficult and painful things to watch in a new show that takes on an older, established and beloved series; is to see new actors trying to fit into old roles. I honestly think this show could work, but it needs a bit of help. I'll give it a few more chances before scheduling something else on my DVR.
