Invincible (2021)
Really enjoyed it!
This is basically what would happen if you mixed Justice League with The Boys... really enjoyable, great cast and good animation. The fact it is animated helps massively as the budget would be too big for live action, so don't let that put you off.
Raya and the Last Dragon (2021)
Looks beautiful, but the story is lacking
Just like the movie Avatar this film is beautiful to look at but completely lacks depth when it comes to the story. It seemed extremely unoriginal, didn't make sense in places and slightly came across as a rip off of the story from Moana.
All in all It seems like Disney have hit a roadblock and should take a step back before releasing more movies, this is now their third film in a row that unfortunately didn't meet expectation
Gisaengchung (2019)
A fully deserving Oscar winner
In all honesty I'd been putting this off for quite a while. After watching it I can see exactly why it won so many awards. The entire film is a fantastic view of the class divide. The symbolism used throughout is amazing. The comedy is perfectly timed and the tension that is built in certain scenes (spoiler free) is some of the best I've seen.
This film has made me visit the back catalogue of Bong Joon-Ho and with the exception of Snowpiecer (2013) I have not been disappointed.
Overall, if you are a film fan then you NEED to watch this... and the rest of his films
Behind Her Eyes (2021)
Promising start.... awful ending
This started very well and kept me guessing throughout. However the last 2 episodes ruined the entire thing. Anybody that is raving about how unexpected this ending is and that it left them "shook" clearly needs to watch more TV shows and films to realise that this is nowhere near original and in reality just portrays extremely lazy writing
Child's Play (2019)
Who let this happen?
Don't get me wrong, the film itself is pretty ok but this should have been done as a homage rather than a reboot. With a less Chucky like doll and a change in character names this could have been a fresh take on the killer doll genre. The fact that this was approved as a reboot is mind blowing
Red Letter Day (2019)
What could've been...
Red Letter Day is a movie that should have been picked up by Blumhouse. The story was interesting enough for me to sit through, though the acting was absolutely terrible. Don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of low budget, badly written and poorly acted movies especially when it comes to the horror genre. But the entire time I found myself thinking about what could have been and who would have been cast in the roles. In all honesty it confuses me how this wasn't a Blumhouse production as it seems to be the exact thing they would normally release. With a better budget and a better cast (personally I was thinking Winona Ryder, Katherine Langford & Alex Wolff) this could have been another horror success but unfortunately this has been released instead
