Echo (2023)
More hate from the trolls
Another excellent Marvel story that the trolls don't like for "reasons." All the troll reviews are so similar that I can't help but think many are fake. Same language. Same tired concerns. More hate directed at non-white, non-male protagonists. A lot of the story takes place in the Choctaw nation, and.although I'm not sure how faithful the show is to the Choctaw.stories and creation myths, the show celebrates indigenous culture. And since Maya is deaf, a lot of the show takes place in ASL, whispers, and silence. It even celebrates deafness! There are no white male saviors here, only a.well-plotted, well acted, redemptive arc for Maya that is full of beautiful cinematography, clever choreography, and darker violence than you might be used to in Marvel shows. Seriously, I can't understand the hate for this show. I suppose the trolls either love to hate stuff, or they are incapable of meeting a show on its terms-and if it doesn't meet their terms, they go shout about Marvel is dead. Don't listen to them.
Firefly (2002)
One of the greats-and an almost mythical lost opportunity
This show is one of my all time favorites, a top-5 in my list of shows. Fox broadcast it in the wrong order, and didn't know how to market it. IMDB has the broadcast order, but it's the wrong order to view the shows. The proper order is: That order is as follows: "Serenity," "The Train Job," "Bushwhacked," "Shindig," "Safe," "Our Mrs. Reynolds," "Jaynestown," "Out of Gas," "Ariel," "War Stories," "Trash," "The Message," "Heart of Gold," "Objects in Space." Make sure you watch the show first, not the movie. It's a perfectly constructed adventure series with great characters and tremendous dialogue-a comedy/drama about colonizing a new solar system, smuggling, family, power, and doing the right thing, even when doing the wrong thing would be a whole lot easier. And you'll be quoting the dialogue for the rest of your life.
The Watch (2020)
Good fun, ignore the weird negative reviews
I don't know why people can't separate books from their adaptations. They are different animals and always will be. A novel is born of one mind, a show is a communal effort. A show or movie can never match a good reading experience. And they are always going to change your favorite books when they make the shows. I've read a bunch or Pratchett but I never read the Watch books, and. I thought the show captured the spirit of Discworld nicely. Funny, weird, excellent design and cinematography, well-paced, well-acted-good fun all around.
Star Wars: Visions: Tatooine Rhapsody (2021)
Cute
Some people will hate anything. There's nothing wrong with this cute episode. The worst thing about it is that it came after the amazing first episode. There's room for cute stories in the Star Wars universe. Cheesh.
Black Widow (2021)
The trolls are out in full force
Don't listen to them. It's an excellent action/super-hero movie. Just enjoy something for a change.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021)
Excellent.
I suspect a lot of the bad reviews are fake account trolls who think comic books aren't political. Captain America has always been political, from.it's inception. Luckily, this show is balanced, well-paced, has great action, good chemistry, and excellent effects. Don't let the trolls keep you away.
Utopia: Just a Fanboy (2020)
Blerg.
One part torture porn + one part family murdered in their home + one part screaming + one part over acting= this episode. The only decent character gets his eye ripped out. Rainn Wilson tries but can't lift this episode out of its dour, grim arc. Zero fun storytelling.
Charlie's Angels (2019)
What a bunch of trolls
I have to believe that a good chunk of these bad reviews are trolls. Seriously, it's not Lear, but it's not trash either. It's a decently put together Hollywood action flick. Amount of man-bashing: zero. Amount of action: good. Cinematography, editing, acting, music? All on par with the Furious 5 films. The 70's Charlie's Angels is being not being desecrated. Neither is the Drew Barrymore version. There is nothing that will really surprise you, but it's a fine diversion for an evening. The worst part about the movie is that Bill Murray isn't Bosley.
Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)
Heist in Space.
I don't know what movie the bad reviewers were watching. We had a good old time watching this one. Fun and funny and lots of good action. Any reviewer giving this movie one or two stars obviously has an ax to grind, or Is maybe looking for high art in the land of space operas.
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
Pretty awesome.
I feel like a lot of the negative reviews here are written by the same person. They nearly all say the same thing in the same language. I've loved Star Wars since the very beginning (I even read the novelization!) and I found this one terrific. My whole family enjoyed it. I have no idea what people are talking about when they say this film destroys the legacy. Seems like people's expectations got in their way of enjoying a fine movie.
