Joker (I) (2019)
10/10
This film is terrifying and poetic. What film can claim that?
30 October 2019
I don´t make any final rankings at the top of my movie list. But I can promise you that this film, is one of the best films I´ve ever seen. You should watch the film.

Have you ever read Nietzsches brilliant Aphorism "Madman"? You should. I admire Nietzsche greatly and therefore very careful about my judgement, but this movie is like an electrifying glimpse into the deeper meaning of Nietzsches "Madman". If you have seen the movie and haven´t read the Aphorism yet, you should. Its absolutely worth it. This movie is like a first key into its further, deeper meaning. The film itself is like a 21st century commentary on it and a brilliant footnote on the problem of postmodern nihilism. If you haven´t seen the movie yet, you might consider reading Nietzsches Aphorism before, to enrich your experience.

Even if you look at the professional film-critics and their negative judgement, they still admit their strong negative emotional reactions, their disgust. Can a bad movie generate something like that? Of course not.

a decent idea very poorly adapted
4 December 2014
The film starts somehow promising by confronting the viewer with an absolutely unusual get-together as Olivia Wilde plays Justin Timberlake similar aged mother (at least physically). It proceeds by showing a depressive utopia where people are buying goods & services with their lifetime and earn them likewise (people are genetic modified that they get 25 years old, don't age, but also have only 1 year from that point on and have to earn their further lifetime). Timberlake comes into the possession of great number of years, but is hunted by the "time-keepers" for that unjustified time. Sounds nice, right? Yes, the film had a lot of potential, but it was so bad executed that it is an insult to everybody who has brain. I wanted to watch a pop-corn movie which I didn't have to think about - since my days are stressful enough. But even with that attitude towards watching the film it was hard to ignore all the logical inconsistency, besides that it has no surprising twists at all. ... And of course their is the usual "bad" guy shoots after "good" guy, but only hits handrail @ their escape. Cliché and nothing but cliché. So if you don't think Amanda Seyfried and others are hot, it probably will be a 1 of 10.

+1 star for potential of the story at beginning +1 star for the hot actress -1 for all the shouting illogic

Examples for missing logic?

  • their is "poker"-match within the movie where the players bet their lifetime ... it is no-limit poker, but for everybody at the table the whole lifespan is always at stake. That means that the player with the highest number of years can force every other player into an all-in situation every time (meaning their potential death), especially unfair when one has disproportionate number of years ... no one would play such a game

  • lifetime can just be transfered by connecting the arms, without any security measurements such that time-thieves just can rope your time at will (of course those are not hunted by the "police" -.-)

  • humans are that advanced that they can manipulate genetics in such a way that we can life infinitely, but use cars, guns, basically everything out of the 80s/90s ???? wtf?

  • wtf was this "fighting about time" in one of the scenes, ridiculous

  • the society would not hold together 1 week if such a system would be implemented without large oppression, nevertheless people just stay in their habit, don't protest or whatever and work in stupid industry jobs ...

  • what does the stealing of 1 million years of life mean overall to the system that it collapses??? bullshit ... 1 million years for 7 billion people on the earth is 1 year per 7000 humans, which means just some few hours more of life ... STUPID

After this film I have to reconsider my other 10/10 ratings
6 February 2012
This was for sure one of the Top5 or Top10 movies I've ever seen. The actors, the ambiente, the story ... simply everything was in a perfect combination. This film is for me in a league with films like "The Elephant Man", but for a much wider audience. And as the title say, after this film I really have to consider to reduce my ratings for several films, because it seems a bit unfair to put them on the same level as this film, although I don't have anything to criticize on them at all. All the persons in the film are very authentic played. And both main characters surprised me with a brilliant performance. I would say, that both actors are really what they are playing in the film. If I would see François Cluzet in the street, I would be surprised not seeing him in a wheelchair. The emotions shown in the last sequence of the film are so brilliant.

unrealistic fighting, unintelligent story
29 January 2012
This film is built out of every possible cliché you can think of. From the beginning you get to see the common gangster hierarchic order. Everybody is totally stupid in this film, just "bone" seems at least pleased with an IQ over 100. I am just asking myself, who makes such a absolutely predictable storyline? I even saw Van Dame Movies that had more story. So if you are not a fan of Van Dame etc. you won't have any fun with this film. The fighting scenes are unrealistic like crap, when he gets hit, he doesn't even get a nose bleeding. You see some unrealistic ground fighting and some unrealistic kicks. Every character is totally unrealistic and maybe because of that played even worse. I just gave the 3 points because of the fighting scene just at the beginning of the film in the jail. That was pretty cool, but after that ... Just ask yourself if it is worth spending 90 minutes of your life, if even I dislike this film as a martial artist / martial artist fan. Maybe it helps, if you are drunk , your watching it with your buddy's AND they are also drunk.

a psychological masterpiece with slow escalation
27 January 2012
I really don't understand the bad ratings. Maybe a lot of the guys who voted like this see themselves in a similar situation? I think they just can't understand the parents. I watched the film with my parents and I am about ... well lets just say, there fits a lot. ^^ And watching this film was so intense. The characters are perfect. The successful father, who gets jealous; the mother pretending to everybody what a perfect family they are; the son - a single child - who enjoys giving away the ordinary responsibility. When the film begins they are still threatening him like there little boy. They are convincing or ignoring that he isn't any longer the little 14 year old boy. And a wonderful escalation begins.

My favourite scene (doesn't spoiler): I just say one word - navy uniform.

Amazing film.
