Half Empty (2011)
Interesting story line
I enjoyed this film, although I found it to move slowly. Perhaps that was the direct intention of the writer, as it is a look inside the friendship of two men. I enjoyed the development of the characters and the humanity of the film the most. It made me reflect upon my own relationships, and the unspoken motivations that lie within.
This movie reminded me a bit of "Blue Valentine" for its realistic portrayal of people in everyday life situations. There is humor, sometimes awkwardly, in appropriate and inappropriate situations. The supporting characters, such as Wes' bookstore co-worker and his in-laws help round out and lend depth to the singly focused plot.
As a resident of the Puget Sound I did enjoy the beauty of the setting. Filming must have taken place on every sunny day over the course of a year!
One critique is that I would like to have seen a clearer tie-in to the title. I found the subtle, single reference to be a bit lacking, and wanted that story line developed a bit further. Nonetheless, I thought the movie on the whole was a really good work and would recommend.
