Whiplash (2014)
Fantastic
Anyone who knows me knows that I am a big music lover and I believe that to be the main reason a coworker of mine recommended this film to me and boy I am sure glad he did. This is an absolutely brilliant piece of cinema with magnificent acting and superb music. I have long been a fan of J.K. Simmons but I find it hard to recall when I have seen him play such a complex and challenging role that he pulled off beautifully. As for Miles Teller I have seen other films in which he appeared but I feel like my awareness of him as a true actor begins with whiplash and simply say that his performance was as brilliant as his characters playing in the final scene which had me applaud as the credits began to role. I loved this film and fellow music lovers will be sure to love it too but at the same time will have a broader appeal due to the fine acting and the relationships between the complex and intriguing characters. All in all, Fantastic.
Boyhood (2014)
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Im not in the mood to write a long review as having just watched this film I find that it has drained away all my energy so im just going to say this, Boring. Really, really boring. Oh apparently my review is not yet long enough so I guess im going to have to continue after all. The acting (with the exception of hawk and only hawk) was awful, the direction was awful, the story was ZZZzzzzzzzzz soooooo boring, The idea of filming a long story over a long span of time with the same actors and watching them age on screen is genius and admirable but i hope that the next time someone does it they don't forget that a film needs a story that is engaging, interesting and thought provoking. A much better and far more interesting film could of been made about my life and even based on the existing characters of this film if they had just focus more on more interesting parts of there lives.
Melancholia (2011)
absolute rubbish.
Lars von trier is without doubt the most talentless person working in film. This depression series of his is all artsy fartsy pretentious crap. He is one of those people that think life is awful and everyone should be as depressed as him but fortunately the real world is not like that and most people are decent and happy. This film is badly written, badly directed and and there is nothing the decent cast can do to save it and i really wonder why the creditable actors in this feature agreed to do it. The kind of people that say they like this type of feature are the same people that say they like Shakespeare just to appear intellectual when really they would rather watch the hunger games (which actually entertains you, which is the point of films). It is not at all entertaining. It is one complete bore from start to finish. In summary. awful pretentious crap.
