Shichinin no samurai (1954)
Kurosawas bid for perfection
The duo between Kurosawa and Mifune works in quite literally every film they've made together, but Seven Samurai ranks not only on top of the movies made by those two iconic people, but in my opinion on top of every list named 'Greatest Movie of all time'. This movie is a work of art, with Kurosawa being able to tell an absolutely engaging story that will hook you for every single second throughout the 3h30m run-time.
Every single frame feels like a picture that could be hung up somewhere and would be considered a beautiful shot, a piece of art.
This movie is a once-in-a-lifetime experience to watch and will, with the exception of Akira Kurosawas other works, never be matched.
Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi (2001)
Japanese Animation is still on a level on its own!
Studio Ghibli, house of the greatest animation films of all time, was able to not only create the greatest animation film of all time with 'Spirited Away', but created a film that can be enjoyed by 5 year-old children, a 35 year-old man or a 70 year-old couple equally. It closes out the predjuice that animation movies are for children only, with it's wonderful art and lovely characters, Miyazaki created a lasting world within 2 hours of screen-time. Once watched, Spirited Away will remain in someones mind for years to come and the urge to rewatch this movie keeps existing. It makes you realize that sometimes, it is the simple things in life that are the most enjoyable parts of it.
An incredible movie and a grand-milestone in animation.
Philomena (2013)
A heartful movie with a masterful Judi Dench
Philomena is one of my favorite movies of all time, as It is british cinema at it's very best. Judi Dench performs her role perfectly with the perfect balance between drama and humor. The movie stays interesting and intriguing as the story proceeds. Steve Coogans role as journalist who first just seems to seek a big story, but later starts sympathizing with Philomena and her story rounds up a great film that can be watched by people of all age.
Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo (1966)
Italian Western at it's peak!
This movie, in my opinion Sergio Leones best work of all time, is arguably also the greatest Western of all time. Lee Van Cleefs acting performance as Antagonist is remarkable and the great acting all around is perfectly rounded up with incredible cinematic western shots, including the most iconic mexican stand-off and of course Ennio Morricones iconic soundtrack.
Whether you like Western or not, If you love film, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly should be on your Watchlist.
