Very slow... No ending
3 March 2012
This movie had a lot of potential with an interesting story line and decent actors, but it moved along very, very slowly. I found myself constantly looking at the clock knowing it was about an hour and forty five minutes long, and wondering when something was going to happen. There was almost no plot development, not to mention character development.

The entire movie I was waiting for a moment that would attach loose ends and leave me satisfied. Instead I was put through torture because the end was so close to that moment, and then all of a sudden credits appeared on the screen. That's really the biggest reason that I'm giving "Martha Marcy May Marlene" a 3 out of 10; because the ending made me feel quite unhappy -- I felt cheated.

There should be rules about cliff hanger endings, like if you put one up then you should have at least some explanation before hand, so that at the end the viewer isn't completely confused.

There were some scenes that were intriguing and disturbing to watch. If they would have had a different ending, although it was a slow movie, I probably would have given it a 5. Unfortunately the reality is that; this movie is very slow, has a frustrating ending, and is one of the worse movies I have seen in a while.

Horrible
13 November 2011
Do not watch this movie. It is the worst movie I have ever seen! The acting is alright I guess, but the characters are stereotypical. There is no arc in the plot; absolutely nothing happens. I kept thinking during the movie that it was going to get better and something was going to happen that made me think, "Oh, yes this movie is worth watching just because of that scene." But no, there was nothing like that. It was long, uneventful and unoriginal.

And don't get me started about the end. There WAS no end! It ended so abruptly and there were no questions answered. Some may say it was a cliff hanger... if it was, then is was a fail at one. It seemed like they just had no money left to finish the movie so they decided that the ending scene was a good enough place to stop. Horrible... just horrible. Let me tell you, I am all for the low budget, independent movies; I find those actually often better then the Hollywood movies. But this was just bad. That's all I have to say, and if you don't believe me (maybe because of the pretty good reviews it got) then go and watch it. Waste more then an hour of your life watching this movie with absolutely no substance.

Predictable and slow
13 November 2011
Not recommended. This movie was slow and predictable. If you've seen the Shinning, then you have basically seen this movie. The acting was well done and there were some cool shots, but the actual plot is one that is constantly overdone. It never made me cringe and I rolled my eyes at the complete utter predictability of it. It's a waste of time. Really, it is. I have never looked at the clock so much during the movie, wondering when it was going to end.

And also, I am not a person that is usually good at predicting things, but this movie was so easy to predict. The other thing is, I didn't really like the main character, due to the way he was presented in the beginning, so the fact was that I didn't care at all as to what was going to happen to him made the movie even more boring. It was a well reviewed film by other users, which gave me the idea that it was original and well done. IT ISN'T.
