Soul (2020)
10/10
My Reverie
3 January 2021
I won't speak for how I think others will view this film. Instead, I will merely explore my own perspective. Movies have always been an escape for me. A journey to escape my quotidian life. And yet through film I could feel that my life was unique. A fingerprint in the cosmos. What I have longed for quite sometime is for a film to explore the afterlife. Though not a discovery of the kind of narrative that I hope to one day encounter, secular justice unfolds in this masterpiece. I do not wish to give spoilers so I will leave any readers with this. Have you ever felt a longing for something more than unplugging? Have you wondered what your soul or "the Great Beyond" would be like and how it could interact with life? Well, this touches ever so slightly on that philosophy. For me, this is a contender for my favorite animated movie and perhaps favorite film. I would encourage those interested in things like "the Good Place" to give this an honest try. You may leave changed.

Tenet (2020)
8/10
Tenet *WARNING* Spoilers
9 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
If you have had the luxury of going to the theaters or you are planning on watching Tenet this review will give you an idea of what to expect. I will not try to give any spoilers that are not in the trailer. To begin, the plot of Tenet is fairly complex. The Protagonist is apart of the CIA, he "dies" on a mission and is sent on a mission to save the world. The future and the past coincide and it's his job to find out what is happening and put an end to it. IF you thought Inception was difficult to follow you are in for a doozy. In fact, I would go so far as to say that unless you are able to easily follow what happened in Inception, please don't watch this as your head may explode. They are by no means comparable in terms of plot; however, as someone who just watched Tenet for a second time, there are still several information gaps I don't fully understand. That being said if you have great focus and love to investigate, you love brain games and confusion, I would thoroughly recommend this as it will take you into a wild ride. IF however, you are the average viewer looking to spend a day/an evening "unplugging" or enjoying sane writing do yourself a favor and avoid this one. I intend to watch this movie likely two more times, but not until it comes out on DVD/Online. Subtitles are very important here as, with all of Christopher Nolan's films, the writing is essential to understanding what is happening in the film and there are two relatively important characters that I was only able to understand 50% of what was said, because of their thick accent and involved wording. Again, this was my second viewing. All told, I would give this film an 8/10. In spite of being extremely difficult to follow and probably intentional holes that I would like to have seen filled, it is still an incredible idea executed well, but not something for everyone to enjoy.

Aladdin (2019)
3/10
Don't bother
13 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Words cannot begin to express my dissatisfaction for this movie. I was not able to finish, so I will simply state this is a review on the first hour and my input of the revamped franchise as a whole. I was initially excited that Disney was recreating the classic tales with the the hope that there were twists that added to the quality of the movie not remove the quality. Unfortunately, I have not appreciated any of the movies as a whole. There were great moments in each such as for this movie, I thought it was an interesting take to have Jasmine think Aladdin had stolen something. However, the last thing I say was Aladdin and Genie who, in my opinion, are good at off the cuff commentary were hemming and hawing about where the location of Ababwa was "North South." Trying to come across as or being a prince you have or should have a grasp on what you are involved in. It seemed that this movie's objective was to make men look stupid, and I must say if I didn't know any better, I don't care what kingdom you are, if a prince is trying to marry your daughter and is perceived as bad you aren't going to let your daughter marry that person: "Ali" and especially Anders. In addition the altering of the music, the obvious cgi for genie, and the way that they handled Aladdin and the Genie was lacking for me. Lady and the Tramp so far is the only half way decent remake. I am unsure as to how the rest of the film was, but after seeing them butcher much of the original storyline so that they could bring something different to the table infuriates me. I do believe that the original Aladdin could be better, but this was a letdown for me. I don't know if the blame goes to Guy Ritchie, the producers, or Disney but one or all of them dropped the ball with this one.
