A brilliant movie debut from Charles Dance!
23 November 2004
I saw Ladies In Lavender recently, and I was going in expecting a boring film, but when I came out, I was pleasantly surprised. The film was...how do I put it...beautiful. Amazing direction. Charles Dance directs with a passion keeping everything important in shot at all times, the mise-en-scene was so mesmerizing. And the script he adapted from a real short story was amazing, just so touching. Brilliant performances from Dame Judi Dench and Dame Maggie Smith. I smell BAFTAs for this film for categories like Best British Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Music, Best Cinematography and a Best actress award for either Dench or Smith. The film was fantastic! Come February, we'll see Awards for Ladies In Lavender from Worldwide Festivals! GOOD LUCK, LADIES IN LAVENDER!!

Absolutely astonishing!! Hanks' best performance!!!
23 August 2004
I only saw this film recently after I saw the special edition DVD for sale at only £5.99. I bought it and watched it as soon as i took it home and I thought it was amazing. Jonathan Demme's direction was great too. but the two best things about it was Tom Hanks' performance as the lawyer with aids and Bruce Springsteen's song " Streets of Philadelphia". I always thought that Liam Neeson's performance in Schindler's List was what should've recieved the Oscar in 1993. But when I eventually saw Philadelphia a few weeks ago, I could see why Hanks won. Denzel Washington as the homophobic but supportive lawyer is also great. The three, Hanks, Washington and Demme make a good team. The film is wonderful.

I couldnt take my eyes off of it!
18 April 2004
I thought Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ was excellent. Jim Caviezel was just...you couldnt take your eyes off of his performance. He deserves an oscar nod in 2004. Sure the film is full of violence, but I feel thats what makes it faithful. All this controversy about how the film sould be banned and all it's anti-semitism is just untrue. If jews dont like it, its there business. it's only a film, for Gods sake. It will not be the end of Mel Gibson's career. It will give it an even bigger boost. Now his film has made 5OO million at the box office, It'll be known as the film Mel Gibson made from practically no money at all and it was one of the biggest successes in motion picture history.

a good debut
29 December 2003
A good directorial debut from George Clooney. A lot better than I thought it would be. Short of Richard Kelly's "Donnie Darko" of course, but never the less a very good movie. Sam Rockwell's first major role was not disappointing and Julia Roberts as the villain was very convincing.

good comic flick
29 December 2003
Of all the comic books now becoming films and that have become films this is not the best, but also not the worst. Not as good as Spider-Man the Blade or X-Men films but better than DareDevil and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Ang Lee's direction was good and the effects were brilliant. A very entertaining comic book film and not disappointing, for me at least.

also robbed

For me, this is the the performance of Day-Lewis' life. Being a brit, I was glad he won the bafta for his performance, but he so much deserved the oscar. Martin Scorsese was robbed by Roman Polanski for The Pianist and Adrien Brody didnt deserve his award either. My third favorite movie.
