The Flash (I) (2023)
10/10
Flashy Brilliance! A Bright Bolt of Cinematic Splendour!
20 June 2023
Buckle up, folks! DC's The Flash has arrived, not as a meek puff of smoke, but as an electrifying lightning bolt, setting a scorching trail that burns brighter than ever in the superhero movieverse! From an exquisitely designed storyline that flutters close to the original Flashpoint Paradox animated movie, to the invigorating visual feast, this film has redefined the DC cinematic universe!

Ezra Miller reprises his role as The Flash/Barry Allen, bringing a delightful blend of unbridled joy and poignant intensity that is both spellbinding and relatable. Miller's Flash isn't just super-speedy; he is funny, emotional, and deeply human, a living embodiment of the saying, "Not all superheroes wear capes."

Speaking of capes, let's take a moment to gush about the stupendous return of Michael Keaton as Batman/Bruce Wayne. With his seasoned acting prowess, Keaton reminds us why he was, is, and will always be, the quintessential Batman. His Batman embodies wisdom and resilience, doused in a dark charm that harks back to his iconic 1989 portrayal. The interactions between Keaton's Batman and Miller's Flash are gloriously memorable, packed with humorous moments and heartwarming camaraderie.

Now, let's not forget the new kid on the block: Supergirl. Played to perfection by Sasha Calle, our newest heroine soars above and beyond all expectations. Her performance is radiant, powerful, and offers a breath of fresh air to the DC lineup. Her portrait of the character as a troubled and angry powerhouse us just brillant.

The Flash offers more than just a character study; it's a thrilling exploration of the Speed Force and its boundless possibilities. The CGI sequences are pure artistry in motion, with breathtaking visuals that capture the essence of Flash's abilities like never before. The speed, the time manipulation, the energy - every element comes alive in a dazzling display of cinematic magic!

The storyline, while following the spine of Flashpoint Paradox, introduces unexpected twists and refreshing additions that give the narrative a unique flavor. The blend of light-hearted humor and intense drama strikes a perfect balance, ensuring that our pulses never miss a beat.

What makes The Flash the best DC superhero movie to date is its beating heart, its unabashed sense of fun, and its fearless commitment to storytelling. It's a splendid spectacle that simultaneously thrills and moves, often leaving viewers laughing one moment and misty-eyed the next.

A toast to DC and all the creators! You've raced ahead and set the bar incredibly high with The Flash. Thank you for this gem, a true testament to the phrase 'lights, camera, ACTION!'.

Black Adam (2022)
7/10
Suicide Squad level anti-hero movie
24 October 2022
DC is upping their game. Black Adam is a super entertaining anti-hero movie.

The Rock does an excellent portrayal of the DC anti-hero Black Adam, who is awoken to unleash his fury on his foes. Superheros don't kill people - well, this one does.

Aldis Hodge does a great job bringing life to Hawkman - an otherwise slightly boring superhero. I was especially thrilled to see solid portrails of both Dr Fate and Atom Smasher, who are two super interesting characters in the DC universe.

Solid CGI, an awesome score and superb fight scene choreography all make sure that you can enjoy this movie solely for the action. Black Adam does, however, explore an interesting new theme that also makes the movie stand out from the rest in the superhero genre. Who are the actual heroes? And how and when do they draw the line for when to save the day or let events unfold?

All in all an enjoyable addition to the DC universe. Together with the newest Suicide Squad, Black Adam gives me hope that DC may actually deliever superhero content at the same level as Marvel.

A treat for fans!

What a superb tie together of the movies in the Spiderman franchise. Speaking as a fan who read the comic books as a child, I can only say that this is my favorite Spidy-movie to date.

Time Trap (2017)

Difficult movie to rate
25 August 2020
I am conflicted about this movie. One the one hand, the script is based on a fun idea that could have been the foundation for a great sci-fi flick - even a whole seroies. On the other hand, the movie could have been not just a bit, but much much better. The B-actor cast, the terrible dialogue and the poor director are difficult to ignore.

I would never watch this movie again, but I will likely remember the cool bits about the story for some time to come.

The Old Guard (2020)

Can't wait for the sequel!
10 July 2020
Awesome adventure where we follow a group of immortal warriors lead by Andromeda the Scythian portrayed excellently by Charlize Theron from Mad Max. The fight scenes have beautiful John Wick-like choreography, the plot keeps you hooked with its mysterious twists and the characters are deep and interesting.

The movie captures a certain feel that reminds me of the first Highlander movies. We understand that there are certain rules to how immortality works, but we do not fully comprehend all of them and have little clue of their purpose. Events that unfold during the characters journey make them understand some of the pieces to the great puzzle that make up their own immortality.

I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes action-packed adventure movies with a supernatural plot. And as you can tell from several 1-star reviews here, if you are very homophobic (at one point two men kiss) and/or feel uneasy with female lead characters of which one is black consider watching something else. It's just better for everyone.

This movie really deserves a sequel and I'll be there watching it when it gets one.

The Mandalorian (2019– )

Brings back the KotOR vibe
6 January 2020
Watching the Mandalorian brings back many memories from the way too many hours I spent playing Knights of the Old Republic. It has beautiful cinematography, it's well-written (!), and it has interesting characters played by excellent actors.

We follow the mandolarian bounty hunter Manda, who is scrapping his way through petty jobs to get steel for new armor - a sign of great status within the Mandolorian creed. One day, he is hired by Greef Karga played Carl Weathers (Dillon from the original Predator) to go on an off-the-books mission that puts him in a moral dilemma that challenges his very creed on which his entire existence is built. His decision sets him on a captivating adventure building up to a breath taking finale. Actor performances by Nick Nolte, Giancarlo Esposito (Gus from Breaking Bad) and not the least Pedro Pascal make it an absolute pleasure to follow Manda and his companion on their many quests. I can't wait for season 2!

I have spoken!

Don't listen to the haters! This is an excellent follow-up to T2
2 November 2019
I consider myself a hardcore Terminator fan. I have watched the Terminator and T2 countless times since I was a kid and they remain among my all time favorite movies. Needless to say, I've found myself disappointed with the following installments in the franchise. Until now!

Before watching this movie, I went through a lot of reviews in here. The many 1 star reviews brought my hopes down: "Oh, here we go again. Genisys 2.0". Thankfully, I could not at all recognize what these reviews were complaining about. I suspect that a lot of these so-called "fans" can't handle a female lead. And she's Mexican, too?! Oh my God! Oh lord, oh God, oh baby Jesus. Really, guys? You consider yourselves fans and this is what you focus on?

A lot of the 1-stars in here seem to care so much "feminism" and "diversity" that these topics are all what they can see in this movie. Maybe they should ask themselves why they see these agendas everywhere. In my opinion, these topics play such a little role in this movie that you need to look very hard to even see them.

Well, enough speculation about why so many reviews in here are so negative. Let me try to explain what I like about this movie without spoiling too much.

The script is great. Finally, a script where we see some interesting character developments and a captivating plot. Sarah Conner is back, but she has not been on the lazy side. She's has been killing terminators with the help from a mysterious helper, whose motives and identity I won't spoil here. But when she comes across Dani she sees herself as she was back in the first terminator. A helpless, scared "nobody" just living her daily life. Sarah is such an interesting character and I always felt that she is what this franchise has always been revolving around. She went from a waitress to the woman who wouldn't just stand back and let the machines win even though it killed off her friends and family. She was not just special because she gave birth to the leader who would save us all - she was special cause she stopped judgment day! She was not just gonna let it all play out, but she wanted to change her fate. Our fate.

The acting is excellent. Linda Hamilton is just such a fine actress and in my book she is the only Sarah Connor. It was such a joy seeing her again. Arnie is great and I really like what they did with his character in this one. What happens when a Terminator loses it purpose and grows old? I like that the movie explores this and other questions about the T-800.

In first movie, a human soldier was sent back to protect Sarah and in the second, a re-programmed T-800 was selected to be John's protector. Now, an enhanced human is sent back - and I love it! She's extremely bad-ass and you get why she's selected to fight against the Rev-9 who is the newest development in the terminator model line.

What else did I like? The list is long. The action is awesome and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The many "flashbacks" about the future which reminds me of the ones Kyle had in T1. The many little treats to fans, like the music that plays in the background at some point when the Rev-9 hits the shed, or the thermal vision of the T-800. Pure nostalgia. But I gotta admit that this is not at all the reason for my rating. Without a solid story and interesting characters, the action, CGI and fan-treats become meaningless. So I am thankful that they got their crap together this time and brought us a worthy sequel to T2.

I can't wait to watch this again! A solid 9 i my book. My best advice: Forget about the 1-star haters and go watch this movie. It's awesome!

Bird Box (2018)

A solid 8!
29 December 2018
In my book, this movie is a solid 8, which means that I am likely to re-watch it in the near future.

The plot is gripping from the very beginning taking us through the chaos unfolding due to some unexplained phenomenon causing people to commit suicide. You instantly connect with the movie's main character, which is one of Sandra Bullock's best performances. Also, it's nice to see a great movie that does NOT get ruined by terrible child actors - the kids in this movie do an excellent job.

I consider myself pretty picky and often stop shows or movies on streaming services halfway through from lack of interest, but this one had me pegged from the beginning to the very end. I definitely recommend it.

Somehow they pulled this off
26 April 2018
I consider myself a big comic book marvel fan. My favorite films from the franchise so far, are Cap. American: Winter Soldier and Thor: Ragnarok. As this movie was directed by the same guys as Winter Soldier and Civil War, I went into this movie with sky-high expectations.

I am gonna keep this brief: Avengers: Infinity War blew me away! If I should mention just one thing that really amazed me was the character of Thanos. He is so well developed and makes for a super interesting and complex villain. As an audience, we are actually capable of sympathizing with a guy, who wants to kill off half of the universe. It's not about power or dominance. It's about preserving life in a Universe with finite resources - a goal with leads him (and the avengers) into several interesting moral dilemmas.

I agree with the other reviews here. This movie is such a beautiful calamity of 10 years of the best superhero entertainment there is. Thinking about it, I can't really grasp how the director pulled this off. So many well developed characters from different story lines are working together in a true cinematic symphony.

I give this movie my highest recommendations. It's a must-see for anyone with just a remote interest in the franchise.

Haters gonna hate - I liked it
18 April 2018
Chill with the super negative reviews in here. It's decent sci-fi entertainment with interesting characters, a good plot and great effects.... and it's waaay better than the movie.

I'd recommend it to any not overly-critic sci-fi enthusiasts. Try a couple of episodes at least before you judge.
