Beckham (2023)
Binge-watched it...
And to say that I don't even like football would be an understatement. Woke up in the middle of the night and thought - what better to put on and get back to sleep than a documentary about a footballer, but boy was I wrong, because, hours later I welcomed the morning sun. :)
Beautifully done with just the right amount of everything. Knew nothing about Beckham, except the obvious. It is a story about coming of age, career, talent and determination, but for me, the true value lies in that deep dive into what makes us human: despite.
One of the best documentaries coming from Netflix, at least from what I've seen.
Rising Phoenix (2020)
awe
You never know if you are going to be the one to lose the use of your legs in matter of minutes, until it happens. Getting back on your feet is a feat itself, chasing a dream is only for the heroes.
Living with disability is not a lesser life. It is different, at times overwhelming, but this film does not focus on what disability does to us. It unweils the truth od the eye of the beholder. And it's majestic.
These people are heroes not because they live in spite of the disability - they are heroes because they make us see beyond their disability and think about the first thing there is to think about: their humanity.
