Yakusoku no Neverland: 131045 (2019)
It Serves Its Purpose
This is an informational episode.
It doesn't excite too much which is why I gave it a 7. It accomplishes its task of being an episode that will set up the future. Especially, following a pilot that is visually and story-wise stunning; this is an episode built-up to wow us later. So, for that I'm excited.
Also, there is some awkwardness in spacing for the story. The idea of going for the rope, finding the wall, letting Ray in on the plan, and introducing sister Krone is a lot to undertake in one episode, so either it's just awkwardly spaced and they wanna push the story forward (which would be very indicative of how the rest of the show will go), or they wanted to push the story along in order to spend time on things later on. The latter excites me deeply, especially with a few ideas of where they would spend their time further along in the storyline.
Ultimately, this is a solid episode that will, hopefully, set up the future of the show well, but as a stand-alone episode, it's a little dull.
Dororo: The Story of Daigo (2019)
Solid Start
Before anything else, you need to first affirm the history of this story. Dororo is over 50 years old and details an incredible and simply unique story of a boy having to regain all that he has lost because of a family member's sins. It's a ridiculous concept of a show with a man who can literally have no senses fighting against demons as stronger bc of his sense but somehow it works. It's unique, it's twisted, and the opening of this newer anime details a very dark and cold twist on the original story's identity and ideas which, personally, I think is better.
Yakusoku no Neverland: 121045 (2019)
Starting Strong!
I'm a big lover of TPN's manga, and when I heard that this was being made Into a series it felt like all loved things do when you trust them to someone else. You're excited yet weary.
That was exactly my attitude heading into this episode, but I'm glad that I did trust the process because the result was great. The pacing is quick in accordance with the manga series, but that's not a problem (especially with the future arcs coming bc everyone can't wait to get to them) however the art, the style, and even the scene changes and cuts are all made well. It's stylish but tells its story well.
Ultimately, it accomplishes recreating the feeling from the manga: uneasiness. It doesn't pull its punches, and it fully makes you feel the weight of struggle that is to come. Great start!
Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010)
Good if you didn't read the Book, Bad if you did
For readers who haven't read the book- A good family fun movie for everyone to enjoy there are parts that are funny for older ages and parts for younger ages.
For Readers who have read the book- this movie is nothing like the book don't waste your time watching it! Basically, the only thing that's right about the movie is that he is Poseidon's son. If you liked the book as much as I did then you will completely hate the movie. It has it's good moments, but they're nothing alike. It shouldn't even have the same name.
Here's all the reasons I hate the movie
Kronos wasn't in it at all the bad guy was Luke I mean don't get me wrong Luke is a bad guy but it'd be like in Harry Potter taking out Voldemort and have The Malfoy's be the bad guy. But when you read this book don't be expecting it to be like another Harry Potter because you'll be disappointed.
The claiming wasn't in it at all either I mean SERIOUSLY you could've at least made that right.
where was Ares?!?! they missed a huge fight scene that could've made the movie better! but they skipped that too.
I don't know how they're gonna follow up to this with the second one. But who knows there's gonna be a whole new set to work on it so hopefully they'll make things right. But who knows.
