Hollow (2011)
Meh
I find myself somewhere in the middle of the other viewers. It isn't the worst movie over nor the best and unlike many reviewers I am NOT a fan of found footage horror. Its a bit too predictable and they are obviously dead already if its "found".
The actors were very good. The concept was great. I don't mind shaky camera and thought this one was well done though- except towards the end. I liked that they gave the girl asthma to explain her hyper- ventilating.
My only problem with this film and the genre in general, is you really should try and convey some sort of message or post-review- like maybe from the priest or the creepy fisherman... or police. I really loved how they turned ...."evil" i guess as they got close to the tree... but yet didn't turn evil parked outside it? I felt the whole last 20 minutes was wasted as they could have really explored the idea that this object turns people into anti-avatar and how that plays out. Instead, it went from thought provoking horror into standard bad guy chasing everyone\shaky camera mode.
But... regardless, I still think its worth watching for sure.
Zombie Apocalypse: Redemption (2011)
Horrid
I can get over bad plots and acting if the story is good and the environment is well done. The environment is basically the Sonoran Desert and their props are decent but not enough to save the film.
What put me over the top and made me turn the film off at mid-point was a shotgun blast to the front of a jeep that somehow manages to splatter the blood on the windshield? Nor does it shatter the back windshield. so I guess, shotguns now can do 180s in midair...
Then the whole movie starts out with the main actor waking up in the desert and for some inexplicable reason doesn't walk towards the mountain in the background but instead walks into the never-ending desert?
Could have been great. Failed due to lack of effort.
