Starting off well
11 May 2024
There is only the first episode to really judge by, since I have to watch it on Disney+ and not Hulu, but it's got the potential to be really good. Unlike some, who have panned this because there's a white woman as the writer, a quick little research pulls up that Rebecca is based on the real-life writer of the book by the same name regarding this crime so the outrage seems misplaced.

It will be interesting to see how the handle the other aspects of this case regarding to the brutality of the teens mobs and the lacklustre interest apparently shown by the BC Ministry of Children and Family Development.

It is a little weird that the one character who had kicked off the whole attack was renamed in this considering Nicole Cook, aka Josephine Bell, has been interviewed on MSNBC so she's a known participant in the assault.

Is this a masterpiece? No but it does build up with some potential. Is Sarah Michelle Gellar used to lure people in? Absolutely, but after that brief cameo in the first episode she is just as prominent a character as the four teenagers.

Yes this might be a teen drama at times, the main characters are in high school after all, but it is more palatable than Teen Wolf was.

If you are going to try this sit through until at least episode four. At that point the story really starts to play out and build up. Having watched the eight episodes I'm curious how much they wandered from the original book series by Edo von Belkam.

Great tale of depression and dementia
7 January 2013
The movie, No Clowning Around, was a very well put together piece of cinema. The trials, tribulations and mental anguish exhibited by Rob Dimension, playing Mumbles the Clown, was superb. The musical score had a very Tarantino feel with its placement and usage as well. All the characters in this were great in terms of their performance within the confines of the story. Steve Corino, in his movie debut, had the antagonist character nailed down and left you wanting to punch him in the face. The time frame, just over 30 minutes, was perfect. Could it have been made into a longer movie? Probably but it may have watered down the story and affect intended. When all is said and done the movie was a great piece of work that left you feeling sorry for Mumbles and sympathetic to his plight.

Funny and wildly inappropriate (in a good way)

Very Role Model-esque in the humour here. Yes there was very crude moments but they were funny. Also lots of references to previous Aptow movies with scenes of the commune folks singing the faux Wings song from Role Models. If you enjoyed Role Models you will enjoy this as well. Paul Rudd was at his best with his unique sarcastic comedy. Jennifer Aniston was surprisingly funny, since I found her as annoying as anything in every other comedy she's done. Alan Alda's character is a funny side bit and very reminiscent of this actor's comedic ability shown in MASH. I would say the only thing missing from this would have been a Jane Lynch character since we had the quite a few of the Role Model cast in this.
