How low can you go?
2 July 2019
By now, we are getting used to really shallow american rom coms but, as I watched this one, I couldn't help but think about the guy who pitched the movie to a producer saying "okay... imagine a guy who would decide not to have sex for 40 days in a row and that's all his colleagues at work are going to talk about because their lifes are so pathetic and we are going to show lots of naked girls". (How to make a big deal out of nothing... ^^) Now imagine the producer saying "wow, what a great idea! I will give you 17 million $ to make this movie"... O_o Un-believable!

Now you're wondering why on Earth did I watch it till the end if I despised it so much? I actually asked myself that question. Is it because the scenario is keeping me on my toes? lol Nooooo. Okay, then, was it because of such great acting performances from the actors and actresses? I will only say... well... they've done the best they could with such rubbish, I guess. Alright then was it because I wanted to see naked girls? Come on, I am not a horny teenager. ^^ And the answer is because I was wondering if it was going to get any better. But it never did...

Josh, Vinessa, Shannyn... I hope the money was good otherwise I would have kicked my agent in the nuts if I had to play in such a ridiculous excuse for a movie.

As bad as it gets...

I'm trying to think about one good thing to say about this movie... oh, yes... Adrianne Sachs gets naked. That's about it really.

I can't believe David Soul, Marc Singer and John Beck played in such a crappy movie! O_o

What a let down!
7 October 2012
As a huge fan of the book, I had great expectations for the on-screen adaptation of a novel offering such a huge potential. What a disappointment it has been! The cast does not match any of the descriptions in the book. The story has been cut down to such an extent that it is no longer the same story. Facts have been changed or are simply missing. Basically, the writers of this TV adaptation re-wrote the whole thing to their liking but certainly not to mine.

For example, Jack is turned into a strong courageous and very assertive young fellow with rather good looks instead of the weak and not so good looking boy in the original story.

They have also cut all the erotic content that spiced up the book, which is also a huge let down obviously.

The story telling is left to be desired as the dialogue has also suffered from heavy cutting. The whole thing struggles to make any sense and only if you have read the book will you manage to understand what is going on.

The pace does not reflect the real time line at all. For instance, at no time do you feel any of the despair the family felt from starvation at the beginning. Their journey was long and extremely difficult. In this adaptation, it feels like a mere walk in the park.

In a nutshell, if you have loved the book, you will hate this adaptation. If I were in Ken Follett's shoes, I would be very upset with the result.
