I liked it, watch this movie.
27 April 2024
I'm gonna try this without spoilers so this review is a little different for me. I liked it, watch this movie, you'll be glad you did. It blends fantasy and reality into an ugly story. Great writing, directing and acting all around.

It's set in the late 1980s in Oklahoma. The production company did a good job creating that atmosphere. They did come up a little short in two areas, maybe one and a half. Too much happens in public places with no people around. It loses some sense of reality in those scenes. The other issue was a couple of plot holes / too late reveals.

The main actors as well as supporting cast are all three dimensional. Subtle nuances flesh them out well. Any character, that has more than a few lines seems real. The watcher can see their motivations, what makes them who they are. A graphic blend of drama and comedy.

Stereotypical in a fun way.
27 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Clichés and boobs aplenty with some decent comedy. Its not "War and Peace" but it wasn't meant to be. It did offer something for the cumulative zombie lore. That being a difference between undead and viral zombies. The bite of an undead zombie doesn't turn a human into a zombie. This can be seen in both "Dead Snow" movies. They bite to eat and kill. Whereas the viral zombie outbreak is a self fueling machine, with each encounter enlarging the hoard.

When Trevor puts his hand up and the zombies stop so he can catch his breath and they stop shows the movie didn't take itself too seriously. I thought this might be a unicorn (Zombie movie with a happy ending) until Devin showed up. Silly and gory. Hope you enjoy it.

Just Don't
21 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The opening titles attempt to set up the story with newspaper headlines. Unfortunately if you aren't a speed reader you miss a lot. The audience is dropped into group of men in a wooded area, via a star-wipe/ while titles tell us it is the search for patient zero.

The dialogue is laughable. In under five minutes we learn all of the men's backgrounds and motivations as they they share them with each other during an argument. The FBI Agents tracking them look like Barney Fife clones. Their dialogue is equally bad.

As far as cinematography its weak. This movie looks like it was shot on an iPhone and an older one at that.

This film made me want to press charges against Emily Lape

Warning: Spoilers
This movie should be used in film schools as a negative case study. I couldn't find any redeeming qualities in it. It stretches' the 10 minute art film short out to 123 minutes. The over-used person with a 10,000 yard stare who silently smokes a cigarette until the screen fades to black and the French language word FIN appears sums up this picture. A 2 minute establishing shot gives us a girl walking. By 18 minutes we learn she is in a support group. The dialogue between the lead actresses wouldn't pass muster in freshman level college composition course. The topper is that the writer / director / star managed to make an explicit lesbian sex scene boring.

this is what horror is supposed to be.
12 January 2023
This movie had it all. Gratuitous nudity and gore are standard in these movies as is the comic relief. This one actually had a complex plot. Another reviewer praised the movie for not using "Model Pretty" people and I concur. The cast looked and behaved like real people, even the abnormal ones. The script / plot / dialogue were above average for the genre. What sets this movie above many others is it has suspense.

The cinematography was better than most. It had multiple, coherent sub-plots. This movie would stand up well if it were shown in an edited for TV version. And the crowning achievement it sets itself up for a sequel.

I wish the series premiere would have been an our or longer.

I wish the series premiere would have been an our or longer. These show are live action comics targeted for an adult audience. The pilot had all the complexity of a cartoon typically found in Highlights Magazine. Pithy one-liners, a full WOKENESS quotient and special FX don't make a show. Despite this it is entertaining. Please try to add some character development, pay attention to the characters mythologies and add coherent plots in future episodes. Also, if the Hulk is incredibly powerful, capable of near instant healing why does he wear glasses ?

Much ado about nothing

Like most newer documentaries this one has no distinct focus. I prefer the older style documentaries that had a narrator., or subtitles that described the content or focus of what was being presented. This one is definitely freeform. You have to follow each rambling segment as the characters unfold.

The tagline " Traveling around broke and hungry" is deceptive. None of the train riders seem to have trouble finding tobacco, alcohol and / or drugs. They survive by foraging, panhandling or theft. Their typical story is rebelling against their upbringing, either working or middle class, as told thru a series of monologues from people definitely under the influence.

The violence and short lifespans associated with their lifestyles is underplayed. It glorifies a refusal to grow up, Peter Pan syndrome. The hypocrisy shines thru as they get jobs, gain material possessions and then bemoan their existence.

It makes you think as well as laugh.

This is not a zombie movie. It uses them as a vehicle to explore social issues and interpersonal dramas. A true slice of life mocumentary.

I was impressed. An unknown cast that did a great job. The writing and directing were on point. I do fault the sound quality. The movie's best aspect was attention to details. Small / secondary elements that enhance the main story line. Many of which made points of there own. All worked together to create an enjoyable film.

It's like a TV show adaptation of a movie yo really enjoyed.

Warning: Spoilers
It is familiar enough for you to feel comfortable but, different enough to leave you guessing. Considering TOS as the source material, I for one question why did they do this or that. With a larger budget and sixty years of cultural change the "Wagon Train to the Stars" is back.

I'm mixed on two variations from the TOS timeline. The introduction of the Gorns much earlier than previously done. This was a negative for me albeit a minor one. The re-writing of Khan's story and the introduction of his descendant in Star Fleet was good. A lot has been done in fan fiction with Khan's character. It is too bad the Gary 7 spin-off never happened.

Just answer me one question--Where is Scotty ?

A day in the life film, 70 minutes of B-Roll.
5 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
We follow a team, reporter and camera woman as they do market research videos for their employer. Their journey takes then to the camera woman's hometown.

This film's summary is mistaken in it's MA rating and claims that the reporter, Kelly. Is an uptight lesbian. The film doesn't contain nudity or profanity. The sex scenes are PG, poorly lit and don't beyond necking.

As a construct the film is weak. There is no complication so no resolution, just. 70 minutes of B-Roll. The camera woman's old flame, now a housewife married to a man, re-embraces her sapphic ways at the drop of a hat. Whereas Linda remains celebate. Throughout the film. I don't see why she was called a lesbian by the writer / director.

Two dimensional characters, inserting quirky behavior with not explanation... 70 minutes of B-Roll.

Nicely done reboot
30 November 2021
Take a moment to realize the original show had it's share of breaks with reality. AKA plot holes you could drive a truck through. The reboot follows in the footsteps of the original. A delightful trip.

They stayed very close to the mythology of the show in this double length episode / TV movie. Some woke nonsense in paring the 1990s to present day society, however it was not done to excess. As always 10 to 15 minutes before the end, when all in at it's darkest the situation is resolved with an ironic afterthought.

If you can believe that a 72 year old man and his 75 year old partner can be cops enjoy the show. It is still a buddy comedy with a body count. Hopefully the gets made into a series. The show wasn't perfect but it was fun to watch.

Recycled Clichés, no likeable characters and bad writing----Watch something else.

Warning: Spoilers
A crumbling resort soon to close for lack of guests and back taxes is the home to the dysfunctional family that runs it. Spoiled by the writers when everyone confesses their sins... How can you owe back taxes when you don't actually own the property ?----Another plot hole is the black brother. Was he mom's, fake-dad's or adopted we never find out. ------Teenage children too young to drive played by actors in their twenties. An all too common error in movies and TV.-----Most of the characters would in reality be horrible people nobody would want in their lives. To include the brother and sister that had affairs with the same bi-sexual townie. ----A touching funeral pyre send off for the real father that none of the kids knew. Killed by their mother when dad was in a drunken, drug fueled rage. ----This scene sets the stage for the resort's salvation a get away for outlaw bikers and everyone is overjoyed.

I agree with a lot of what: These two reviewers had to say.

Cdeanroane 17 October 2021 Elvira meets true life crime!

Novacain2006 24 October 2021 Great Show! Michelle needs to get it together tho.

What I find fault with is that the show is passing as a documentary when it is actually a reality show. And a scripted one at that. The details don't match and the story line is repeated at least twice. Is this done give the host something to say or to stretch out the length of the show ?

This movie is a throw back to the old horror movies. I. E. They had to scare you with the story. It has it's share of violence, gore, profanity but, surprisingly no nudity. Which is all too common in the genre. It is a long movie and kept me guessing till the end. If it doesn't make sense watch it again every detail has a purpose.

Who Am I Now? (2021)

A good story with very poor mechanics
1 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
As the writer and director are the same person we are definitely seeing the the artist's. Vision. It is a coming out story for two women that have been denying their own, respective sexualities. A one night stand between them throws not only their worlds into chaos but, their friends lives as well. It doesn't have a story-book ending but, there is truth in that.

THE NEGATIVES: Bad casting choices. 30 to 40 something actors as college students just starting to experience life. Mixing 20, 30 and 40 somethings as a tight knit group of friends-in college. A laser focused / tunnel vision aspect to the scenes in public places. By that I mean the background actors could have been replaced with cardboard cut-outs.

Things that just didn't work: A business major that doesn't understand statistics. A college, never pictured, devoid of other people. The drinking at work scenes for both leads. The two businesses are lacking customers and allow on the job drinking. The dialog for the first half of the movie is as subtle as a chainsaw.

To the author: You told a realistic story and did it well. The emotional subtext comes through in your your work. Comparable to Robert Heinlein's passage on 1 and 1 and 1 don't always equal 3. Please polish your craft, I look forward to you future works.

Warning: Spoilers
Bambi is a hot girl who is trying to make a movie, She also develops an unnatural love for her car. In a move to save on fuel costs she lures a lovesick friend into murdering the movie's cast members for fuel. She even draws her brother into this scheme.

The movie uses comic book panels throughout to tell parts of the story. It saves money as it is cheaper to draw scenes as opposed to filming them. We also see Bambi nude in the comics. Real Bambi is never nude although she wears skimpy outs or lingerie perpetually.

Bambi dies in the end. This is a surprise to viewers but, not to Bambi. See it for yourselves. This is no great piece of cinematography just a fun, comedy horror flick.

This movie is hard to define. Too many elements and a vague conclusion.
23 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A movie is usually summarized by what happens to or the changes in the main character, in this case Anita. She is the new girl in town and at school who works at the local fun park. Her boss tries to rape her. She has a difficult relationship with her father. She is a gang rape victim from the popular guys she met working at the fun park. Closes out the movie by driving her father's car over a cliff in order to stop a game of chicken between the movie's two rival groups. Very dark for a movie billed as a coming of age T&A flick.

It has hot vans, trucks, men and women. The obligatory nudity, nerdy pledge and beach fun are all present. Weed, beer and comedic elements throughout the movie. Too much screen time is spent on showcasing skateboarders that has no bearing on the plot.

Like I said, I don't know how to define this movie. If nothing else it is a good 1970s time capsule for a country that no longer exists.

Leave it to Beaver meets The Grapes of Wrath.
10 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The IMDB description of the movie is good without spoiling it. Set in the bible belt of a post WWII suburbia. The characters live in a blissful, ignorance mixed with delusion and self-righteousness. The medico- religious group the lead actress gets involved with attempt to cure her mental problem with medicine and prayer.

Everyone has secrets and their own secret agenda / demons. Save for the background characters that are barely more than animated mannequins. Subtlety is used very well, reminds me of the movie Galveston. ---things said without being said. Has a few surprises as well as plot holes. Entertaining overall and leaves the viewer guessing..

Good, old fashioned raunchy comedy
1 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Steve Martin once said, :Comedy isn't pretty." Mel Brooks taught us that Nazis could be funny. The "Kentucky Fried Movie" showed us nothing is safe. Another movie that has three titles and all are different cuts with slightly different content. The titles are American Raspberry, Groove Tube and Prime Time TV.. PTT was the original, theatrical cut. It had additional footage that spelled out the social consciousness and consequences of these movies. Lost to the ages.

This film is more of the same. There is something to offend everyone and everyone gets their turn in the barrel. Don't take yourself too seriously and none of us gets out of here alive.

This movie is rude and crude, that is it's charm. Stereotypes- ethnic, cultural, political and social class are exploited. Everyone gets their turn in the barrel, reminiscent of "Blazing Saddles." Not high art by ant means. Just a fun movie to enjoy, preferably under the influence.

An infomercial passing itself off as a documentary
6 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
50 of the best horror movies you have never seen---not quite. Some of these were good movies others were not. The reviewing panel loved every aspect of every movie. Hence , an informercial more so than a documentary. Every one of the panelists had an involvement with one or more of the films so they are a biased group. Often talking just to hear their own voices. One line sticks out. "The character is a fourteen year old girl a preteen girl." Didn't make sense even on a second viewing.

That being said it is a good reminder of some older movies you might want to watch. I wrote down three titles to watch and two that I want to look up for more info. and maybe watch. This show did answer one question for me. Colin Hanks is Tom Hanks son, I thought he was his younger brother.

The Giving Tree in human form and painful to watch
25 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Kudos to all involved with making this film. You told a story that is all too common in pieces and parts. This film was so sad I almost shut it off more than once. No one person could survive all that happened to Katie and she didn't. Your characters aren't people but, rather archetypes.

Katie is a martyr. The monosyllabic Bruno is the struggle most ex-cons face after prison. The mom is an example of the upside down, dysfunctional parent child relationship typically brought on by substance abuse. Maybelle is society. She sees everything. A sympathetic witness unable to help. Sara is our darker nature. Mr. Daniels the father of our darker nature and an active participant in the burning. Dirk, Mr. Willard and Matty are the negative aspects of capitalism. Bullies and their followers professionally and personally. Officer Warren and Bear seeming care but, are in truth predators.

I was unable to figure out the time for the movie to take place in: Dollar a gallon gasoline, sex with under-aged prostitutes for ten bucks, shipping container trains and no bill seen in the movie was larger than a twenty. The death of Katie and re-birth as a lot lizard was chilling. Your movie is too strong to win an Oscar.

Katie Says Goodbye
